I have noticed that my alt belt was getting loose so I went under the car the other day and the alterantor wasnt puting any tension on the belt. I lossened the bottom bolt that the alternator pivots on and then i went to lossen what ever is on top and I found nothing. I had no bolt on the top of the alternator. Just the bracket. So I found a bolt that would fit and I put it in on the top part and tightened it. It keeps coming loose. What is supposed to be on top of the alterantor? Is it just a bolt that tightens up and doesnt let it move or is it something like the PS/AC belt tensioner? TIA

At the top of the alt, there should be an adjustment bolt. Its kindof like the tensioner bolt. Its more like a "T" shape fitting, and when you turn the bolt head, it will either pull or push the alt to adjust it. Its hard to describe, but it works almost exactly like the PS belt tensioner pulley adjustment..

How dos it hold on to the alternator? Does that black bolt fit into the alterantor to make it move when the other bolt is screwed? I guess all i need to do is order the bolts then and I should be fine. I still have the bracket there.

Mine also vibrated loose and was lost..easy to install a new one...think I paid like 5$ + tx for mine (bracket and all)at a spaldings salvage yard.
Yea Dave you got the idea on how it works...just get the two bolts you should be fine.

What a funny world. I just lost my shit 5 days ago. Same shit as you guys. Need a 5/8 by 3" to get in there, and if you want the extra security get yourself a 5/8 hex nut to tighten it from the other end.
