Anyone have a decent guide or a rundown of a clutch change? I just don't want miss anything or screw anything up, especially with removing axles. I have searched for a VFAQ, but I can only find one for a turbo.

I dont have anything written down but here are the general guidelines. If you have torn your engine apart or took your cyl head off (which seems lik eyou have done that kind of work before) then its easy:

1) Jack car up
2) Remove wheels
3) Remove your front shocks/coilover setup.
4) With a tie-rod end remover, remove the steering connection to the spindle.
5) Drain tranny fluid.
6) With a flathead screwdriver, gently separate the driveshaft from the tranny. You should be able to wedge the screwdriver between the shaft and tranny and pry it apart or tap it apart with a hammer gently but be careful not to damage the differential seal!
7) With driveshafts off, now support the engine by the oil pan for example because once the tranny is off, the only thing holding the engine up is the passenger side motor mount!
8) Hoist the tranny and now proceed to unbolt the engine flexplate from the clutch itself.
9) Unbolt the tranny case from the engine.
10) loosen the 3 bolts that hold the tranny to the tranny motor mount.
11) remove both the front and rear motor mount connections. You of course have to remove the crossmember under the engine/tranny as that contains the front motor mount. You can just unbolt the rear motor mount...no need to actually remove it.
12) You should now be able to lower the tranny.


Repeat steps 1-12 in reverse order to put it back on.

That is just one way to do it....and i'm sure i may have missed some steps but it should be a guide to how to do it if you are mechanically-inclined...
