I am looking for more power and it seems that lots of people have bored out or gotten new throttle bodies. What is involved in this and where can one get it done? Do they sell aftermarket t.b.'s? Does my idle get screwed with or is there any possibilities of harming anything in doing a bore. And I have no plans on going turbo if that affects the size of the over bore. What mm would you recommend and how should i go about doing this?

if your gonna get your stock one bored i'd go with a 56mm or u could get one of the 6omm jeep throttle bodys.

Many people have theirs bored out to 55mm by Howell Automotive. You'll notice a better throttle response, which seems like more torque. However, some have experienced a "sticky" throttle plate. That's when you slow down to a stop and the engine rpm stays at about 1.5k to 2k rpm for a second after you come to a stop. It's not bad at all. I like mine. Others have gone with the bigger 60mm Jeep TB.

do you have to ship it to howell to have this done?

just do some searching.. there have been several very educated and informative discussions on previous threads......

check the general and the perf/engine sections when u search... and the threads werent over a yr old...and most of em have links to the others..

i have the howell 55mm t/b, and luv it... a 15 minute install, and was the "best" mod on the buttdyno yet.....

i got a TB thats bored to 56mm, its stripped though, no sensors, no butterfly, no shaft thingy(i can't think rite now) but i will trade it for you stripped TB, u pay shipping. i have a friend that can get TB bored for free @his work but thats it, no flutterby and so on. i got on a jeep TB anyways so i don't think i will ever use the bored one.

if i bought your stipped t.b. could i use my stock sensors, my butterfly, etc. Where could i take mine to get it bored and do i need new sensors and a new flapper wheel thing etc. Or can i just buy a new one from a store?

you would use your stock sensors cause when you get it bored the hole just gets bigger. you would need to get a butterfly, flapper thinger or whatever. and i said i would trade you just gotta pay for shipping. so your not really buying anything from me

there are some 60mm billet throttle bodies on the announcments and some on ebay looka round..

I can bore ur tb if u wanted me to. I will have pics tomarrow of mine. I take the tb apart clean it all up put it on the table on the mill and bolt it down with the factory mounting holes center the mill with the tb and us a off set bore. On mine i matched it up with the stock other side i kept the boring tool about 20 thousands above the butterfly. And then when i put it back together I featherd it in with a diegringer with a scoch bright tip then i take the die grinder with 1500 sand paper and polish it up. OK, first, as was mentioned above you really need to do a search and look at some stuff for yourself, there are tons of recent conversations about Tb's with some great info. I'm kinda bored right now, so I'll take the liberty to help you out. You can have your TB bored or ported. You want it bored, I would never recommend having anything ported. Porting is done by hand is not that exact. Boring happens on a milling machine ... you get my drift. My suggestion has ALWAYS been - if your going turbo - you want a 60. Staying NA, go 55-57. You can have them done at Howell or ARD. Howell does a 55 and ARD does a 57 but some recent threads have pointed out that there is no difference between a Howell 55 and an ARD 57. I've never compared them myself so I don't know. Each company does them for a little over a 100 if you send them your stock TB. I think you can buy a new one from Howell already bored for about 230 - in other words, send yours in. The little "flappy thing" is called a butterfly valve and each company will fit your TB with a new one. Although they do very little for HP/dyno results, they have a great "feel" and is often a highly recommended mod. There are no adverse affects to boring your TB provided you install it correctly and have some sense of what your doing. Last bit of advice - send it to a company to have bored, don't have some side shop or friendly 2GNTer do it unless you are absolutely sure it will done right and you have seen their work. I took a little offense from that. I'm not saying i am the best but my work is I'm sure up to pare as the compainies you mentioned above and i wouldn't be changeing the butterfly. Just mearly boring out the meaty lip in the tb.

Would boring the lip off it be as affective h.p. wise as doing a through bore w/ a new butterfly?

Someone in this forum is selling 60mm throttle bodies for about 205 shipped. They are anodized in 4 different colors. I paid for my and supposedly its on delivery. It's been almost a month since they received my money and still no throttle body.

You could convert to a Jeep TB. Run it at 55mm or 57mm and convert it to 60mm later when you want...like when you go turbo. Check my sig for a writeup.

im still n/a and got the 60mm jeep tb. its nice, noticeable difference. plus you can get the 60mm jeep tb cheaper than having your stock one bored out. cost me $80 in parts, w/ lots of excess material to do several others should i want to. well worth it. now i just need to bore out and finish polishing one of my spare plenums and swap that in over christmas break.
