38013, Car shut off, won't start ( Electrical)
Posted by Jasvb TS2K2, Nov-24-02 07:39 AM
I disconnected the battery to reset a CEL. I put it back turn on the car. I hear then a high pitch sound. I go see under the hood. I see like a small fire fume from the connection, ( I got a stereo, factory alarm, etc connected) so I move it around. A spark goes off and the car died. I thighen it after and try to start the car but it won't. Lights inside fade and shut off. So I mess with the battery and they come on. When I turn the key. All lights die again. No sound. Any idea what this can be? Now I can't turn it on. HELP!

All fuse are good. New symtoms. I go back to open car. Click alarm off, it does but the doors won't open, got to use key. The dome lights are very dim. I put key in. interior lights, gauge lights, etc are also dim, when I turn key to start they go very dim and 3 sec all lights go out. I'm fearing alternator here. Perhaps I'll let it go for tonight and try in the morning see if it rest and kicks in the morning.

Side note: Since I went turbo I've had a longer than usual crank start, well right before this today it started up really fast. Where before it'd be 3-4 sec to start it did it in like 1 sec.

have you tried jumping it? i'd say get your battery checked if thats not it have the alternator checked. your battery probably doesn't have enough juice to unlock the doors with the remote. to check you put your key in the drivers side lock and turn it 2x it usually will unlock the passanger side too, but it won't if thats the prob. an almost dead battery would explain why the lights are dim too.

Thanx.
I will see if it starts tomorrow. I have a 4 month old Ultima redtop. Perhaps that spark affected it. I'll try to jump it, if it doesn't start than I don't know, perhaps that alternator. We'll see. Later.

I'm betting on bad battery connection.
