Not due to the resent Phantom Grip install. I had the problem before the install and during the process of looking for the problem I installed the pg while I had it out and open.

Anyway so here it goes, I am getting a clicking sound coming from the tranny. It is best described as rubbing bearing noise but loud. (It may be just that, a bearing inside the tranny?) It isn’t the throw out bearing cus I replaced that. It isn’t the axles cus I replaced those. I don’t think it is the clutch because it all looked good when I had the tranny out and it grabs fine.

It "clicks" when I am in any gear but doesn’t click when I put the clutch pedal in. It clicks only when driving and like I said in all gears. If I put it in neutral while driving it doesn’t click.

Any ideas?

My guess is that it is one of the many bearings inside that f'n tranny. I just don’t have any idea which one. I think it is the main shaft bearing.

Why can't a new T/O bearing be bad?

It could but why would it produce the exact same sound right after the install of it. If my throw out bearing was bad and I put a new good quality OEM one in and the sound is the same right after the install my gut tells me that it isn’t the throw out bearing. I wish it was that easy but it isn’t the throw out bearing.

yea, my 1991 pathfinder did that (its my lil bro's now). clicked when you hit the gas, but push in the clutch and it would go away. still never found out was it was, but i know the sound.

You could try and drain the fluid. Put in the new synthetic BG synchroshift with a bottle of mitsubishi friction modifier.

It cannot be any worse than your situation already and may free the bearings if they are not totally shot.

You probably know that I have been using the standard BG in my car with mitsu friction modifier and my transmission feels like it is brand new. I also change fluid every 30K miles. I drag race and have autocrossed the car for nearly 3 full seasons.

BTW: I also was hearing a popping sound when my car was under a load and the weight transitioned to the rear. It turned out to be the front struts being a bit loose. Not the three mounting nuts on the strut tower, but the nut on the strut itself. It turned near three revolutions on the right and two on the left. No more popping/weird clunking sounds under a load. It sounded like the transmission at first.

Just and idea

If you have to rebuid your transmission, get EVERYTHING cryo treated along with your axles.

Sounds like my buddys civic we changed clutch, TO bearing, tranny fluid eveything still makes the noise. He finaly said screw it parked it for winter and is swaping to a new engine next summer, damn honda people and there engine swaping :)
