I have a minor tranny leak and a friend of mine can't get to work on it until sometime next week, so I'm monitoring my fluid levels very carefully. I started the car, ran around the block for a few minutes until it was on normal operating temp., then place it on neutral, while the engine is idling. I pulled out the dipstick and it was reading about halfway between the holes on the 'HOT' indicator. I'm prety sure this is where it need to be, the upper most hole had no fluid in it. Now my question is when do I add the fluid? Do I add it right there while it's running or do I have to place it on park first, stop the car, then add it?? Oh yeah, the leak was somewhere in the diferential like a gasket or something. I know both of the tranny and a differtial share the same fluid. Anyways, thanks for the help.....

Looked in the repair manual. It's a little cryptic. I think that you can add while the car is on. Put on a level surface, move throught all the gears, then put in nuetral. Only thing is make sure you are filling using the appropriate marks(HOT vs WARM). Hot is after the car has been running for 15mintues (according the the manual) and WARM is greater than 60secs but not HOT. Just make sure not to overfill. Manual got a some bold print warnings about it.
