37823, Code P0340 & Labor ?
Posted by Jasvb TS2K2, Nov-22-02 06:41 AM
Car has been running funny. Today she had a seizure. Studdering like crazy; running very rich. So I go to local Autozone get it checked for free. It's a camshaft position sensor. Cost $30. Is this something I can do myself or should I have a mecahnic do it? Also my A/F gauge was acting all jumpy too; at one point just stop blinking all together, could this be related to that also? Help. TIA.

Yes.

The cam angle controls injecotr timing and verifies mechanical timing in conjunction with the crank angle sensor. it's the little ovoid thing on the drive'rs side front of your cynlinde rhead. Two 10mm bolts, and it's off.

Check the harness first - if it's loose, it'll do that. it's just a magnetic pickup, so the odds of it actually going bad are slim.

Your explanations seems simple, but I need a visual. Here is a pic of my catch can can you show me where. If not if you have another visual I'd appreciate it. Thanx

Let the car idle, and wiggle that plug. Does the car sputter, or die outright? Then the plug is loose. Make sure it is clipped in tight.

I opened up the hood, what do I see under the plethora of wires, the plug was off. I guess a small part of the corner of it broke somehow and it fell off. So I snapped it back and it stopped. But I disconnected the battery and the CEL is still on and my A/F is not reading, only supuratically. Any idea what that could be? Thanx. I will post feedback for this one. Later
