37784, DOT 3? more Q's

I was racing a pontiac fiero the other day and my clutch felt like it went out. it slipped out the bung hole and i thought i burnt it up. i couldn't smell anything but after school, i went out and a friend helped me out and checked under my hood and my master cylinder had nothing in it. so i had him top it off with some dot 3 and i'm assuming i either need to rebuild it because i have NO CLUE where that fluid suddenly disappeared to, or maybe it was slowly leakin and finnally ran out...dunno. but i think i'm going to bleed my clutch and top it off and see if i still have any leaking. but i don't really know how to do it. i heard that if you push to hard or fast you can over extend the piston in the cylinder. and i've heard of many ways to do it some say just like brakes, others say, put a tube on the valve and put the other end in some fluid to stop air from going in. etc. and where is my slave cylinder? sorry for all the questions. TIA

go buy a chilton's... check where your left foot is chillen while your drivin, while the car is parked... if your master cylinder is leaking, there will prolly be fluid chillin.. your slave cylinder is on the dr. side of the tranny...

you can get a rebuild kit for the master cylinder, i dunno about the slave cylinder... satan tried to charge me over 150$$ for a new slave, and thank god it was just the master cylinder..

search a lil for bleeding the clutch fluid.. i asked about a month ago, and someone else asked about a week ago, so you shouldnt have a problem findin out how to bleed the clutch..

good luck

and ya, use dot3 unless u can getyour hands on dot4, but dot 3 werx like a champ for me

Yeah man, thanks, and no my foot wudn't the clutch. yeah, i did do a lot of searchin, on the web mainly. i hate postin because of that same reason. plus, its easier to search than log in :) i know that it was slipping because i was in first and rolling and i could drive fine and if i floored it o gave it much gas the rpms would rise and i didn't gain any speed, had to let off and it would get going. i gots dot 4 ain't that nice. what is the difference anyhow? wouldn't a chiltons run me about 20 bucks?

trust me, it was just about the best $20 I have spent

If you have a chilton's and a factory repair manual, you are set.
