I am dropping the tranny today and putting in the phantom grip. Any advice for me when I open the tranny. And what do you torque the bolts to once you are ready to close it back up.

Anything else I should do or watch out for?

Good luck with the install! Like Kyle said, make sure you seal it up good, so you don't have a leak. And be careful taking apart the trany, sometimes it can be a bitch to separate. Keep us updated on your progress, I'll hopefully be installing the same thing in a month or so :)

Seperating it isn't too bad. Closing it is a bitch. make sure that you have an unbroken bead of anaerobic gasket maker (Loctite 518, Permatex, Mopar anaerobic sealant, or Hondabond, all the same sort of stuff). Note that this is not the same as red loctite, which is a thread locker, and it is the non-servicable strength, which needs to be heated to break loose. I would just follow the directions on www.Armond30.com in the tech section under the differential installation heading. Also, make sure that your big shift lever is all the way up (towards the end of the input shaft) as this will put the shift rails in the upward position, making it less likely to think that everything is lined up when a rail isn't in actuallity.

Yeah...what he said, and that anerobic gasket maker aint cheap :-) get the smallest tube you can find cause you dont need much

what is 'phantom grip'?

It's "The Poor man's Quafie" The Phantom Grip is a Parcial Limited Slip Differential conversion unit. I would highly recomend the Quafie (Full Limited Slip Differential) if you can afford it :thumbsup

I got the Permatex for 11 bux for a huge tube. Could probably do 12 transmission (or you could screw up sealing 1 transmission 12 times) on this one tube. I am very impressed.
Now we'll just hafta see if it seals.

Where the HELL do you guys find Loctite 518?!? (Apparently also known as Loctite 51817?)

I looked for two solid weeks and the best answer I could get is that they've never shipped anything but industrial packages of it. Went to 3 different Locktite factory dealers!

Ended up using the GM anaerobic sealer that my local Satan had in stock, little tiny red tube, $14.

I found the Loctite, in 6 lb tubes. For 80 bux or so. No thanks. Permatex worked for me.

I had a hell of a time finding it as well. I ended up ordering it at a local Grainger outlet. It's not listed in their big(4000 page) catalog/book, at least not the one that I have...but the guy at the counter found it in the counter book.

Loctite "Gasket Eliminator 518 Sealant" 1.69 FL. OZ. available at Napa. Item 51813. At my local Napa I use code 0200 to get a "garage employee discount". Try it where you are, and see if it works. BTW I am not a garage employee, they let me use the code since I buy lots of parts from them. good luck.
