3767, Intermittent engine light warning Posted by FuSi0N, Jun-20-01 03:25 AM
The check engine light on my car has been coming on and off. Its happened about 3 times in the last 3 months and the warning will last for a day or two then go off. I have noticed that this problem has been occuring when I drive the car between 1st and 2nd gear, not all the time but this seems to have been happening at this point of operation. Any ideas?

Do the key dance and find out your codes. I would bet it is a code 21. That is a common occurance when the o2 sensor is starting to get lazy. Good Luck.

I did the code dance and got this: 1 pause 2 pause 3 pause 1 pause 5 pause 5 According to the FAQ, should this be read as code, 12, 31 and 55, would this be correct?

Correct, the codes if you read them should tell you a general idea of what is going on. The 31 is the same thing I am getting right now, something to do with the EVAP sensor/canister or some garbage like that. The 12 and 55 are just battery removed and end of reports in that order. Mine has been doing the same thing for almost a year now but I haven't felt any power loss from it. One of these days when I am home long enough I'll get it all checked out.....

What is strange is that I haven't messed with or even touched the battery with reference to code 12, could it be a sign of a low or bad battery?

If yours is acting like moine don't get to comfy with it being off, it'l be back soon enough. I know what you mean about the code 12, no matter how long between battery disconnects I always get it, not sure why..

You'll always get a 12 code. I'm pretty sure it just means that its starting its diagnostics thingy. Don't sweat it just ignore it.
