37576, magnecores worth it?
Posted by woo2gnt97, Nov-19-02 12:54 PM
Been having the same problems as 1998EclipseRS stated in the General Forum, (intake backfire, bad gas mileage (about 210 miles a tank)).

Plan was to change the plugs and wires. From searches, it seems that the magnecores are the top choice for wires. Found them at ptuning.com for like 80 bucks. Are they worth the price? Will it matter if I just buy some cheaper ones at NAPA when I go to get the plugs? Going to go NAPA to make the purchase, or perhaps order the magnecores tonight if it seems logical. TIA

Yeah, the only reason that I would recommend improved aftermarket wires for a mildly modded 2GNT is if they are being used to replace overpriced stock wires that have failed. If you are gonna buy overpriced wires, might as well get better ones. Otherwise, the stock wires are fine.

DO NOT waste $80 on Magnecors. I have them and I really can't tell the difference between them and the wires I had from NAPA. Waste of cash IMO unless you have upgraded ignition.

I use the wires from Napa, and have had no probs with them at all. Like said above, unless you have an upgraded ignition amplifier, then no real need for them. I was going to get the MSD ones, because they are red, to match the car..Car runs great though with the Napa ones. I really havent heard anyone really complain about the Magnacores, so do what you like. You wont see any HP gains though if thats what you are thinking, unless you currently have wire problems causing your engine to run bad..Even stockers will fix that..

I think about any plug wire will perform well while new. I think that the question is how well will they work in a year.
I'm as pleased with my magnecors today as I was when they were new.
IMO

Dude, get NGK V power plugs, It stoped the poping and gas mileage is alot better, next for me is wires and fuel filter.
