I just wanted to know how hard it was to install the phantom grip? Do you have to remove the trany? and the cheapest place i've found is $250.

Yes, you have to remove the tranny and open it up so you can get to your differential. Then I think you have to press out a pin to install the Phantom Grip. A few members on the board have it installed, so maybe they can provide more info.

this thing works for autos too right?
People have been saying the phantom grip is garbage, etc. Is this thing really shitty? B/c I heard it will work on auto. I think I got that from this site. If it sucks, it their any other option for the autos? I know the mtx guys have a couple more options, or atleast the quaife.

I heard it was great.

Is there anyway you can gain access to the differential(and remove it) w/out removing the trany?

Yes you HAVE to take out the tranny. I have also heard from the neon guys that it works well, and a couple guys on here have it(optimuspeterson). I am contemplating this myself because I can't exactly afford a quaife right now.....and right now my tranny is sitting on my garage floor so it would be a great time to drop the phantom in :) I just can't put up with spinning one tire down the road all the way through third gear.....

Go pick up last month's issue of Sport Compact Car. (I think it's last month's issue) Towards the back there's an article on a Nissan 240SX. One of the mods they discuss is the Phantom Grip. It touches lightly on the other types of LSD's (viscous and Quaife) and then shows some pics and instructions on installing the Phantom Grip. According to the article, it works great!!

I was going ot have someone open up my tranny, to fix whatever is wrong in there, but reading this I think I will hold off till I get $250 so I can get the Phantom Grip. Can someone shoot the website where to get it for this price? Thanx. Later.

i heard that with a lot of hp they will break is this tru ?also what is the difrence in the real lsd and the phantom grip?(strength mabye?)

well the stock diff can only handle so much power if you want to put a lot of power through it then get the quaife. I heard good things about this too, maybe I'll do it when I my rebuild done.

Thanx. If Extreme sells this, I wonder if someone else might have it for less, they usually aren't the cheapest for parts?...

What else would you guys recommend to get when I open up the tranny? I already have a clutch, unless mine is damaged for some reason? :wary TIA.

250 is the best price I have seen. I got mine from Howell for 270.00, msrp on it is 300. When I talked to Howell they said they have a automatic neon w/ it in that dynoed over 400hp.

I have both the quaife and Phantom :-) I know the quaife is absolutely the best imo but I want to see how the phantom "feels" vs. the quaife.

I am going to put the phantom in first and drive it around for a few and get a feel for it. I am then going to put the quaife in and see if I can feel any differences.

If you want to sell the phantom after you test it let me know :7 I am doing a phantom when I do my tranny just because for $250-$270 more its hard to pass up since the tranny will be out anyways.

there are 3 or 4 bearings u can replace when u remove the differtial for the phantom grip 2 are easy to get ata bearings store none has yet to tfind the plastic needle beraing other then the dealor so far and there are 2 pin brackets from neons we can sue to stop the diff pin from backing out so we dont ahve to weld it in their to save our trannies... if noone posts the diff pin p/ns (4.40$ each need two brackets) ill grab them from neons.org

Anyone know any downsides to having the PG???

I haven't heard any, but i know there has to be some, like tire wear, anything?!?!?!!

I have also heard that B&M also makes a version of a limited slip comparable to the Phantom Grip. They use a stronger spring rated at 1000 lbs and it is also cheaper. May be something you guys want to look into.

they make one it was designed for the 4g63 n/t trannies although from jsut getting off the phone with bm tranny they said it should work offered to install and double check it if i sent him my diff to inspect, its no 100lb springs they use 13-1500lb springs (they upgraded about 5 months ago) and get better results the new phantom grip has upgraded (gold) springs also, the bm unit is 200$ (they stole the idea from phantom grip and were asked politly to stop making it they still do i guess) i just ordered my phantom grip from extreme and ordered my pin brackets too here is the p/n anda link for them04800059aa is the bracket part number,
