whats teh difference between these types of CAI:





is one better than the other? i had one like the first one on my car previously, it didnt have a filter at the end...but i notice alot more CAI with the filter when i browse the internet

im guessing the first one has the filter underneath the chome "sheath" thing. thats a no-no :nono , as it reduces the airflow. you want as few obstructions as possible all the way from the filter through the manifold.

Go for the second one. BTW, those are short ram not CAI. my couple cents.

Well the first one has a heat shield on it so it keeps the filter cooler than the open filter type. As far as the obstruction I'm not so sure about that. I don't think it would hurt you too much because it will still suck the air in through the entire filter. I could be wrong on that though.

Short ram = shorter

Cold Air = longer

Cold Air needs to be longer to get away from the heat generated by the exhaust manifold etc.

edit: oh yeah, the one right above is a CAI

i saw this one on ebay and for some reason they are calling it a cold air intake. thats probably why -koalakb- was confused, am i right?

If it were between the two at the top, I would say the upper one. It will not obstruct air flow but rather keep it cooler as the metal nonsense is used as a form of heat shield. They are short ram. The cold air will generally be longer with extra curves. Just picture it coming off of your intake manifold. Where does it look like it would end up, in the bay or underneath away from the heat.

I would be really surprised if that "cover" actually made any difference.

the advantage with the cold air is that it goes down by the radiator.... its not just longer it actually goes downward where the foglight holes in the bumper are.
