How do you check the MTX fluid, and add to it?? I think that mine is leaking, so, how would I get it to stop??

take out the battery and battery tray for easy access to the tranny plug. its a black plug on the tranny that will be under the windshield cleaner fluid tank. just pull it out(sometimes ya gotta pull hard) and stick your finger in the hole the fluid should be up to the bottom of the hole. you need a funnel with the flex end to fill it up. i just fill it up until it starts leaking out. i guess thats its.

How do you drain it as well???

okay let me see if i can explain this. look at your tranny directly below where the wires plug into your ECU. there should be a sticker thingy with a barcode on it. a few inches below that on your tranny is a fin kinda like the fins on the left of the pic but longer. they are running the same way(bigger on the left and get smaller to the right). okay if you feel between the 1st and 2nd fin there's nothing but between the 2nd and 3rd you should feel a bolt. its facing the front of the engine. that is your drain plug. just loosen it up and bam, tranny fluid will start coming out. i hope this does it for ya.

Put the car on a lift or jack up the front left side of the car. There is a drain plug on the bottom of the transmission. This to the left of the drain plug for the motor oil. It uses a 17mm socket I believe. Just drain the fluid and put the plug back in.

There is a rubber cap on the side of the transmission. If you remove the front left wheel you will have access to it. I used a silicon hose and attached it to the fluid bottles. There many ways to do it, find what works for you.....not difficult. Basically you insert the hose in the hole and squeeze the fluid in. The car needs to be fairly level to do this properly. If you do not have a lift, after you remove your tire, lower the car down to where it was with the tire actually on the car. It will take 2.1 quarts. I actually got 2.4 quarts to go in. Keep filling until it runs out the hole. You can stick your finger in the hold and feel that the fluid level is full. Now put the rubber cap back on, put the wheel on and lower the car.

Use the recommended fluid. I use BG Synchroshift with Mitsubishi friction modifier. This is not recommened anywhere.....but it works well for me.



How do you know that your manual trans is leaking? Where is the fluid actually coming from? Is the housing cracked and you actually see this? Are you just assuming the leak is coming from the transmission?

I fill through the reverse light sensor on the front top of the transmission with the rubber plug out of the side. I have enough fluid in there when it starts to leak out where the stopper goes. Best way IMO to fill the tranny, as the reverse light sensor is readily accessable.

Me too. I usually drain all the fluid out i can, then just put in two quarts throught he reverse light sensor. Usually, it's close enough to 2.1qt that i don't care. Anyway, who wants to use 1/10th of an $11 quart of fluid?

I think that it is leaking. I put it on ramps, and got under it, and there was a substance all over the bottom of the car.

I smelled it, but it wasn't motor oil, and the trans is shifting kinda rough, so I think that is where it is coming from.

Well I just got the fluid from satan and am going to drain and fill my tranny this weekend because a couple of months ago when i had a shop put in my clutch and cam gears(big mistake to let a shop do it) they put in some kinda castrol tranny fluid shit and my tranny is shifting all jacked up. Like i can have the clutch pushed in and it won't even go into first unless i force it or sometimes goto second then back to first. also i just noticed when i started my car the other day i heard this clanking sound not sure exactly where it's coming from but it sounds like the tranny. Any one have any ideas on what could be wrong?
