Took my car into the mechanic today (never again!), to have them check the coolant problem, and they think its the head gasket. I was mad about that, but to top it all off they didn't bother to add a little coolant, so i was driving home at 2/3 temp gauge. I don't think i've ever been so pissed in my life, this is terrible! I don't trust their opinion, I want another opinion. It can't be my head gasket, its only months old. Would high EGTs contribute to a blown head gasket?

pull out the dipstick....if the oil is nasty mud brown color, then its the gasket....if it looks like oil, tell the mechanics to bite off

well...i agree that you should look at your oil for coolant, but sometimes its not that easy. If you had high EGT's like you mentioned, it could have warped the head which could cause an coolant leak past the headgasket...The gasket itself could be just fine but if the head is slightly warped you could lose coolant

I think i'm gonna run some no leak through it, my mechanic is a total dipshit but he wouldn't tell me that to try to get him to do it, he won't touch my head gasket, water pump, timing belt, anything like that because he's white trash anti-import.
Let me check my oil, but i think it looks like oil.

Oil looks....dark and like its ready to be changed (i'm a little over :) ) it doesn't smell like coolant if that makes a difference, it just looks like...dark oil.

not true about the oil being brown 100% of the time, mine wasn't but gasket was still shot, and i work with the tech at mitsu I sell cars so i trust them
