Ok,

My car is a '95 Rs with 151k miles on it. It runs good with no hesitation that I can tell. Every so often when it is idling it will kinda go between 800 and 900 rpms, and sound like it is trying to die, but it never does, and it will stop when I give it gas.

I put oil in it Friday before last, and this past Saturday when I checked it, it was a little over a quart low. I replaced the vavle cover gasket on it, and spark wire seals, but it still does it.

Does anyone know if that early head gasket thing was a recall or not, b/c if it was then I am going to take it, and have it fixed.

If it wasn't a recall, then how hard would it be to do it myself. I can do it, but I think that the only thing that I would have trouble with would be the timing on it. How do you put the timing belt on time. The rest of it, I can do, but that is my biggest concern.

Also, any helpful hints would be very much appreciated.

headgasket was never made a recall (well it was a hidden recall but only if your the origional owner and under like 80k miles.
So no luck for you

But do a compression check and see if its a problem, might be the headgasket might be valve seats, might be a bad dipstick (believe it or not but my friend was just loosing lots of oil on a newly rebuilt engine and it turned out to be the dipstick wasnt seating correctly and oil was coming right out the tube took us for ever to figure that out)

But the compression check will tell if your rings/headgasket is bad, if you do a wet compression check (pour a little oil in the cylinder) if the compression #'s get better its probably your rings

Do you notice any oil in your coolant/ or excessive bubbling in the coolant that would be a headgasket

Timing isnt that hard to set at all, just make sure you dont turn the crank or you might bend some valves .

Check your front main seal, mine is bad and i would lose a quart every week or so.

don't know about the front seal but my headgasket was blown with only 40,000. I was told that this happens often because our headgaskets are crap.

It is not the head gasket. Me and a mechanic checked it earlier this evening. That guy said that he thinks that the rings might be trying to stick, and to put some Restore (which I had already bought 2 days or so before) and put it in to see if that would help it.

Any other ideas besides rings. I am more than likely going to buy another engine that I can get pretty cheap, and put it in.

Anybody in VA/TN/W.VA that wants to help.;-)
