I first would like to give props to every member of this cool site because I have learned so much about my car (99 Eclipse GS) and performance parts. I come to you with a question. I know that I can put in a turbo or nitrous into my baby and it will gain an incredible amount of power. Now is it possible to add a bunch of other parts and be able to produce the same increase in performance. I know nitrous is fairly cheap if you look at dollars per hp but no offense to the nitrous crowd, but I am a little worried about adding one to my car. I intend to add to my car little by little, so it doesn't matter how many different parts you suggest. I know that for a Hahn turbocharger at stage 1, I would gain about 60 or so in hp. Now that cost after installation close to 3g. What parts could I add to my car to get the gain in hp but for like than 3g. I don't mean to sound cheap but college tuition is a pain in the a$$. First the best bang for your buck ... AFX UnderDrive Crank Pulley. This is a must regardless of what way you go with your car.

If you plan on going turbo then save up for it now. The UDP you will want regardless so go ahead and get that. Nothing will give you as much constant HP as a turbo except for a lot of engine work. In the mean time get the UDP, a gs-t exhaust. Maybe an intake system and/or headers. Only thing with the last two is that when you get your turbo they will be replaced.

Yes all that is true. One other point, you really can't do engine work little by little anyway. The labor cost would be tremendous for the tear down and rebuild all the time, and most things work together and would need to be done all at once. I have the AF/X pulley and AEM intake and will add exhaust soon, that will hold me over until I get my turbo kit.

Here is my favorite (short) list of mods which are "inexpensive" but effective. I know you've asked about powr mods, but I'm adding in other stuff too just for the heck of it :)

Power: GS-T muffler (cheap pay no more than $50 used, looks good, fits perfectly), Cold air intake (by used one, they're out there and it's just a tube so who cares, or make your own), AFX pulley (as suggested above, very nice for the price) these three mods will add a fair amount of power, cost no more than $400, and keep you busy for a little bit. That will give you time to decide on whether there will be a turbo in the future or not, that's why I don't suggest a header, it's useless with a turbo setup and the cost for power isn't as good as these three mods.

Handling: Shocks/rear sway bar from a GS-T (they're better that what's on the car now, and you can get them cheap), RX-7 rims (they are wide, light, cheap (less than $500 for all 4), and look pretty good, can't go wrong here). Put the stock 205/55r16s back on the rims if you have them, the wider rim alone will help the handling alot.

Brakes: Upgrade fronts to GSX setup (should be fairly cheap since you can get the parts used, but only useable with 16 inch or wider rims) or new powerslots/powerstop (whichever you prefer), not really budget but good for the price if you don't want to change anything else. But you're going to have to shell out $$$ for good brake pads, the softer the better. They won't last long but they'll stop the car better and that's what matters the most.

Also remember if you do buy performance parts that will be replaced by a turbo you can always sell those parts. Header, intake....all money in the pocket for quality parts you can't use any longer. Even if the parts aren't sold here on the board you can always drop them on ebay. :)

don't get me wrong i'm allllllllllll about the boost i love the feel of a turbo, specially those new suby's that are spinnin out 13.5 lbs but for our cars it's cheaper to do everything else but the turbo. i dunno if you can find 60 horse in it all but you should be close and you won't have to worry about blowin up your engine. i've also heard of a supercharger kit for usi'll try an get the name of who's makin that and post it somewhere. that thing turns 18 pounds i was told
