36315, do motor mounts get soft when they warm up?
Posted by jamesman, Nov-04-02 08:06 AM
I have 97K miles on my car and recently i've been noticing some rattling noises, or knock noises when i put it in first and let the clutch out, it sounds liek the motor is torqued and is hitting something. well, in the morning when it is cold, it does not do this, but as the engine warms up it gets worse. it's not anything internal to the engine, and i think it is the motor mounts, do you think that is the problem?
thanks,
james

I don't believe the motor mounts will soften at all when warmed up. You might want to check to see that the intake pipe or other piping isn't hitting the hood when the engine is torquing. Also, sometimes the intake pipe running to the throttle body could be rubbing against the battery or hitting the front upper strut tie-bar (if you got one). I don't know, just some ideas. At least this is what I experienced once.

I can't imagine our mounts getting any softer than they already are cold. they are ridiculous.

one thing that I had happen that was kinda funny :rolleyes was a motor mount coming a bit loose, allowing for a bit of movement before the mount takes up the torque. Makes a clunk noise.
