Okay folks, so I did a compression test on my car a while back and the results were: 180, 180, 150, 180... I was less that thrilled to say the least. Well, last night I did another Compression test, just to be sure, and once again: 180, 180, 150, 180... I have heard you guys talk about a leakdown test, so I did one. I poured 1/2 a cap of Mobil 1 5W-30 Fully Synthetic down each plug hole and checked once more: 220, 220, 215, 220... good lord. Now, this just means that I need new rings, right? I am thinking of going with total seal, but what do you guys recommend. Also, what all is involved with changing rings, and what all will I need? I've never done it. Any help would be appreciated.

i would go with hastings rings... i dont like total seal too much. you will have to pull the head off, and the oil pan, and pull the pistons/rods out from the bottom. it'll probably be pretty pricey if you have someone do it for you, it actually wouldnt be very hard if you had a ring compressor to put the pistons back into the block with. you may even be able to get away with not taking the head off at all. goodluck man.

Howell Automotive has them in stock. I forget the price, but they are about $120. That's what I used in my engine.

You shouldn't have to pull the motor. If you remove the head, oil pan, and the I-beam then you can pull the pistons/rods right out the top. All you should need are rings, a cylinder hone, and a ring compressor.

yea i have done two engine rebuilds without pulling the engine. A ring compressor is hella cheap, you will also need a hone, and you might as well get a valve job. You will also need a new head gasket, pretty much the whole gasket set for the top end..ect ect..it is now avaliable from mopar for about 140..includes the head gasket.
