3628, Oil Leak!!! Posted by Doug96GS, Jun-17-01 11:08 AM
I change my oil w/Mobil 1 ever 3-3500 miles. I do, however have to add between 1.5 and 2 quarts in between b/c it is leaking. When I'm nearing 2K on the oil the oil light comes on when i take right hand corners hard. I know that it's leaking and I'm not burning it, but I don't know how to fix it. I can see it dripping off of th filter VERY slowly. Any ideas on a fix?? BTW, my oil filter is screwed on as tight as a mofo :)

Have you put the car up in the air and taken a real good look underneath? Maybe the oil is leaking from up higher and dripping down to the filter (bad oil pan gasket?). Maybe wipe everything clean and then run the car with it up on jack stands. Crawl under there and see if you can find a leak forming. I've done this before to find a leak (worked too). Be careful though...crawling around under a running car is a bit risky...rotating/hot machinery, electricity, flamable liquids...uh huh.

may be you screwed on the oil filter too tight??? if not that it could be the oil pan gasket like corbin said, or it could be your HG???

...or it could be your cam seals, or your cam position sensor seal, or your valve cover seal, or your oil pressure sensor, or your ....you get the idea...

If it's not all listed before this it's the head gasket. the lube place that does my oil said i was leaking from my rear main seal turned out to be the Head gasket. i've replaced 2 so far. and my car doesn't burn it nor does it drip on the ground. the back of my engine is a mess though. I just read somewhere on the sight that there is a problem with the bolt whole by cyl#4. on the 420A's it wasn't bored all the way which isn't allowing a tight seal because the bolt it to long. if you can't fix theleak checking everything else definitely check your head gaset. i highly recommend it.
