i have a spun bearing on #1 and #2 bearings, will it be okay to just smooth out the journals with sandpaper by hand, or do i have to take it to a shop to smooth it out? i also noticed the connecting rod surface ,where the rod are connected by two bolts ,are not smooth, is this normal? kinda hard to explain, ill try to post some pics,any info is greatly appreciated.

If you spun a bearing you'll need to have it turned at a machine shop. Sometimes you can get away with using emery cloth to re-surface, but in your case I would'nt. As for the rods, Does it look like they were damaged? of just a flaw in the casting? If you dont feel comfortable re-using it, i think new stock replacements are pretty cheap.

If you're talking about the mating surface between the two halves of the rod's big end, that is the way stock rods are made and it is perfectly normal. They aren't cast as two pieces - they are cast as one pice and then "cracked" to form the two halves on the rod big end.

Thanks for the info guys, ill just have to take the chance of sanding it by hand since i have no choice because i dont have much funds right now. I'll just pray to God i dont hear that noise again. I never knew connecting rods are casted as one and "cracked" to form two pieces, im learning new things everyday. Just what i wanted to hear, thanks for the help :)

If you must do it, PLEASE use emery cloth. and take a long piece, drape it over the journal hold it by the ends and pull it back and forth. Dont use your fingers and sand it, let the paper do the work, or you'll get an uneven surface. :thumbsup
