about 6 months ago when i had a shop put my cam gears in and my clutch ..... i don't know what type or how much tranny fluid they put in there. Now for like the last oh... 3 months or so (it has just gotten worse) it is hard as hell to put it into first about 75% of the time. I will have the clutch pushed all the way in and try to goto first and it just won't go, if i push hard it will grind and then go into first. i have found that if i goto second the back to first it will go in easy most of the time. Could this be caused by the wrong kind of fluid or maybe not enough? or are my syncros gone? please help... also sorry this may be a dumb question but how can i check the tranny fluid and where is the plug to fill it? not to familar with tranny stuff :'(

Check for leaks and the fluid, but it sounds like your 1st gear synch is getting worn. Usually the second to first gear movement allows the blocking rings to shift a little and allow the car to get into gear. I usually have this problem when it starts getting cold here or the fluid hasn't been moved in awhile (overnight).

Is your clutch disengaging all of the way?
How much travel do you have before it catches?

also what fluid did they fill it with?
I have heard that our trans's are quite finicky about what oil is in them.
I have a buddy with a 1G that had that problem (not as bad as yours though) and we put BG synchroshift in his car, and now it shifts like a dream.

be very very careful on what kind of tranny fluid you use. The plug and fill for the tranny is on the bottom of our cars, i think near the oil plug, same general area. To fill, you're going to need a funnel with a long tube... you'll understand when you get down there.

I'd suggest topping off your tranny fluid or even draining the old fluid and refilling. If you drain, check the old stuff to see if bits of metal are in it.. that could mean that are synchroze are messed up.

If you see bronze color shavings or bits, then blocking rings are GONE(not likely). If you see gray metal bits, then actual gears on the shaft are grinding away from the dogteeth.(more unlikely) It could be the fluid since these transaxles are touchy about it. Does the problem go away after the car has been driven and warmed up?

Yes when I first start my car it is really bad now, but when it's warmed up it's a little better... it dosn't do it as much but it does do it..... where can I get that BG Synchro shift or is there something better i should put in there? I think they just used some normal tranny fluid... i didn't see them do it so i don't know for sure. But to me i think it's the fluid or the synchros. When i change my oil i might check that fluid but i need some more fluid to fill it with ...so if some 1 could tell me where to get that stuff at ???? thanx
oh if i can't get that BG synchro shift stuff. What kind and weight is for our tranny?

I'd use the Mopar #... That way there would be little doubt that it would be the type of fluid. There are still some mixed reviews with the BG stuff.

all good points ^^^^^^^^^^ tranny fluid is a good start, make sure u get the right shiot tho....and it costs a pretty penny (my satan was chargin $18/qt)

an easy check would be your clutch fluid resevoir...its right next to the brake fluid resevoir...

maybe bleed your clutch... invest in a chilton's if u dun have one..

when my clutch master cylinder went on me a week ago, i couldnt even shift into first, let alone any other gear.....
