Well I tried to take off the 2 bolts on the fuel rail that hold it onto the intake manifold and couldn't get them. It is next to impossible to get a wrench in their to loosen them. What exctly are the steps to removing the fuel rail. Do I have to take off the intake manifold? The car is in the shop right now getting my new bumper painted so when it gets out I really want to get this done. You can get it out it will take some time and fustration. I was able to get a 3/8" drive ratchet with the sockett back there. Once you loosen it you have to do the rest with your hand wich takes some creative angleing. Trust me don't give up you will get there. Come from the outside around. come in from the far left by the A/C crap and from the far left by the fuel lines. If you don't want to do that you have to take off the upper half of the manifold.

I didn't take off the intake manifold. It's a pain until you've done it. Then it's not so bad. I did take off the coil pack, valve cover (don't have to do this, but it gives more access), injector harness, and throttle body cabling. Put the whole wrench down inside the intake manifold 'curl' so that the wrench is parallel with the ground and turn a little at a time. That will work for the passenger side. For the driver side, it's almost the same, just a little harder to reach. I found the hardest part to be putting the bolts back in without dropping them.
Good luck,
Matt

I think taking off the upper plenum is the easiest way. I've done it both ways but by taking the plenum off I can get the injectors out in about 20 minutes. All from the top.

Thanks guys I would rather not try to take off the upper manifold section. So when I get her back I will try taking off the coil pack and the throttle cable. I will probably just take one whole day and work a little at a time so I don't get to frustrated. Its gonna take nearly the same amount of time removing the coilpack, valve cover, TB linkage, as it is taking off the upper plenum. Its pretty easy to take off the upper intake plenum anyway. I tried to screw around with trying to get my hands and a wrench in there, but it was just taking way too long. I got the upper plenum off and at the injectors in like 20 minutes or less. It makes is sooooo much easier getting at the injectors that way IMO.

Ok I will take your guys opinion and take off the upper manifold section. I mean that is what this board is all about helping out other 2gnters, I would be a fool not to listen. I will try it this weekend. Thanks again, Patrick 96 GS HRC kit, S20G, FMIC, Howell bottom end 8.6 pistons, S-FMU, Blitz BOV, P&P head, SS valves, lots more little goodies

I'm not saying don't take off the manifold but I did the whole thing for the first time in about an hour. But that was replacing a whole fuel rail with a junkyard rail and I have other turbo goddies on there restricting my access even further. All I did was take off the strut bar, coil pack, pull a vac line and remove the throttle cable where it meets the TB and I was able to do it with my fat fingers. The hardest part was getting them back in by hand. But it only took a few minutes to do that. I would go the way you want to go but if you take the manifold off don't forget to have gaskets on hand for it.
