i dont mean to post as much as i do, but i really want to find the problem with my car. Im thinking my clutch is starting to slip. I just changed the tranny fluid not too long ago, but recently ive just had a bad hesitation with the car. The car runs rough when you first start, and after you drive for over 20 minutes. Its like the rpm go up, and the motor revs just the same, but the car just doesnt go. I really dont have problems in first or second gear, just three through five. Could i have leaked all of my fluid from the tranny somehow? Also, when i take my foot of off the gas, the car jerks a little, like the clutch is bouncing? Can anyone back this up with a good explanation? TIA

The way you describe your rpms going up but the car does not accelerate sounds like a clutch going bad. I am not sure why it would do it after 20 minutes though, unless that is the time it takes the clutch to get warmed up and that is when it slips...... I would get it looked at, the clutch would be my first guess based on your description.

You can check the fluid level in the tranny b pulling the fill plug, and sticking your finger in. You should be able to feel fluid. I don't think that is your problem though.

easiest way to tell if you have slippage, is when you are at the top of 2nd gear shift to fifth gear and floor it, if your car bogs down, you are most likely alright, if the revs go up, say hello to mr. slippage.

yah what he said ^^^^^^^^^, or go up a hill in 4th and punch it... If the RPMS rocket up but you dont go anywhere, you're clutch is toast.

My clutch is slipping too.. Clutch masters stage 4, with like 2000 miles on it... Doesnt slip till about 8psi is built, then it revs up, and catches and holds all the way through redline... wierd as fuk if you ask me...

That is really strange brad... I haven't ever heard of a clutch slipping and then just grabing after the slip at higher rpm. Is it possible that oil is leaking onto the clutch disk facings causing it to slip, then when it starts slipping, it builds up enough heat to burn the oil off, then it grabs??... Thats the only thing I can think of that would cause something like that.

I think the rear main is leaking :-( I am gonna wipe down that side over there and check it in a few days and see if its leaking still... Probably is... I really dont feel like pulling the tranny right now.... i might just let it go for a few months cause i really dont have garage space till i help my dad get his head on the beemer...

I have a used clutch and rear main seal for sale if it helps

Well, I might take that rear main seal off your hands if you dont need it. The clutch is probably fine once the oil leak gets fixed and it burns the oil off.

edit: p.s. sorry to hog this thread since its not mine... to the orig. poster, if your having probs like mine, then the seal is leaking on it, or the tranny's seal, if not and it's just pure slipping.... then you probably need to put a clutch on your shopping list in the near future cause it will only get worst
