I was checking out the 2 and found at least so far for me I found that the short ram would be a better purchase. Can anyone tell me maybe what they think?

if you are going for performance, get the cold air, if you want a real mean sounding intake, get the short ram. although i do think the cold air sounds better. the cold air gives more top end, shortram cuts out at higher rpms. go cold.

Go coldair and you will not be disappointed. It pulls much harder through the whole rpm range.

What are some downfalls with the cold air?

it is closer to the ground, so there is potential to get water up in there (not what you want in an air intake)

I have the AEM Cold Air, and the other day I was driving in a very hard rain, when I entered a parking lot and hit a large spot of water , the car died? I tried to restart it but it would not start. I waited 2 hours and tried again and it started. Should I worry about any future problems?

I filled up with gas and added a bottle of STP Water Remover.

to my1997talon check my response in your other post, as for any negative thing about the cold air, hmm besides the water(ive driven over puddles that most likely cover my filter, you just press the clutch all the way so no air/water is sucked in) as for leaves, a filter is closed, and leaves cannot enter. the cold air is the better choice. i dont know about 20 hp though.

I also would go with the cold air because of the power. It you are worried about water getting in it, then I would buy an AEM bypass valve. It is only around 50 bux and it is the cheapest motor insurance you can buy. If I am not mistaken with an AEM intake you would have to cut the pipe so you can put the valve on. I bought a Ractive cold air intake and it came in two sections, I just put the valve where the boot was supposed to connect the top pipe to the bottom pipe. Still payed less for the ractive and bypass valve than the AEM by it self.

be careful with the bypass valve, mine split right down the middle(ye si installed it right) i have heard the same from other people i know. i run mine without the bypass filter now with a coupler in its place, and the flow seems smoother.

So I guess nobody likes the short ram huh..
I wanted to get a little more power feel and a better sound so I figured that would be the way to go withought spending that much. how hard is it to install the cold air? I know the short ram is like a sinch but how much harder is the cold air?

AEM CAI will give you N-O-W-H-E-R-E near 20hp. I have it and yes it does make a difference but definitely not 20hp, probably not even 10hp.

no i doubt it, i even doubt 7-8hp is accurate for the CAI. more like 4-5.

in response to how hard a cold air is, the part that takes the longest to do is to dissasemble the stock unit. after dissasembly, a short ram will take around 10 minutes. cold air will take around 20-25. its very easy, if youve never done it before, follow the directions. ive done over 20 cold air installs and every one gets easier. take your time, and check everything.

you will be faster too, hey weezle, have you taken off the caps that block off airflow to the filter, you sound kinda disapointed with your cai. I love mine. I had a full exhaust when I put mine on but I still love it. just be careful going through water, don't pretend youre a 4x4 or something

Well, here's one vote for the shorty. I have it and it sounds great. I got the short intake because of the water issue. I drive on the interstate every day and I feel safer with the short intake. Whichever one you go with, you'll like it. Got mine from NOPI for about $125 delivered. Be sure and let us know how you like it after install.

i just put my short intake back on when its raining, or when i am not at home when its raining i just remove the bottom piece of my CAI and put the filter on the short piece. then i have no probs. with water

I'm lazy, I like short ram, no water, make engine sound good, $40 shipped from ebay :)

I really don't think water will make THAT much of a difference with a CAI. I mean, unless you fully submerge the filter in water, not that much water will be sucked up. Any water that is sucked up will probably be burned when it reaches the 1400 deg F engine.

If you really can't decide between short ram and cai... how about Injen? Their cold air intake extension can be purchased seperately from their short ram and the two pieces fit together. (that's what i'm doin)

I'm sure the hp difference overall between the two different brand intakes will be nominal just because of brandname.

if you keep your filter clean and oiled, shouldn't the oil help repel the water?
