35056, Is the TPS the only thing to control Open/Closed loop?
Posted by 420aVenger, Oct-17-02 07:28 AM
The reason I ask is that almost always when I floor it in 4th or 5th it will go to open loop for a second then after I build a few psi it goes back to closed loop. So is the TPS probably causing this? BTW I always have a pretty crappy idle and sometimes it doesn't even hold an idle.

Anyone know?

when your in open loop it hold a a/f reading like .94, then drops to like .89 or .87v etc all of a sudden?

No, it goes to like .94V where it should be then starts cycling like it would at part throttle.

your O2 sensor is probably going out on you. if it really went into closed loop while you were floored in that high a gear, you would detonate like CRAZY.

I would look into O2 sensor and MAP sensor too.

So I should rule out the TPS? These sensors are expensive so I don't want to replace any more than I have to. BTW the 02 sensor is like 2 months old. How could that POS go bad already?

And could a MAP contribute to low vac at idle? I have replaced all the gaskets, torqued them to spec, tested every vac hose and none of them leak. Yet I still have 10hg vac and sometimes it'll drop below that and try to die.

if its a bosch o2 sensor It certainly can go bad that quickly

What's your vacuum routing? a standard turbo kit? or do you have anything capped off? Catch can or breathers?

Did you try tightening TB to manifold, upper to lower manifold bolts, manifold to head? Could be vacuum leaks there? I knoe you said new gaskets, but wanted to make sure you got them all.

What is your intake and exhaust set up? Any porting and polishing? what size exhaust?

A bad MAP could affect idle and mess with the IAC and fuel giving you a messed up idle, which could cause a lower vacuum...

What's your diel A/F reading? Could you be too lean or too rich at idle, choking it out? Could the problem be the same and the ECU goes back into open loop under full throttle?

I've had the manifold and TB off several times. Torqued them to spec every time. I even torqued them real hard (why I had to get new gaskets) and it was the same deal. I've capped off every vacuum port on the manifold to test for leaks and that didn't help. I DO have my PCV and that intake nipple on the VC going to a catch can. Stock exhaust, no boost leaks. I will answer the rich/lean questions tomorrow after I datalog it. Is there anyway to test the sensors w/ a logger?

Can you get sensor reading on the datalogger? you could check voltages?
