34829, Question about running rich
Posted by 1TuffRS, Oct-14-02 03:41 PM
Ok, Ive got the autometer A/F gauge (you know the blinky light one) and I finally got the damn thing hooked up the right way and according to it, I am running way rich. When I go WOT, I basically peg the gauge, lighting up the last few green led's. I dont think this is normal, but if anybody else is suffering from this let me know. Also I do have a CEL on because of both my gutted cat and because my O2 sensor voltage is too high (ie running rich as hell). Im kind of anxious to see if this is normal or not, because if it isnt and im running too rich, I think it is awesome that I was still able to pull a 15.7 w/ just a CAI, exhaust, and UDP.

I installed my A/F gauge last weekend and according to it I am also running way rich... basically just one LED from the end with WOT. I wasnt sure if this was normal. I was thinking maybe since I had the battery disconnected for an hour or so that maybe my ECU had reset and it was just gonna take some miles before it started to lean itself out? Does this sound feasible? If not then I also am running way to rich. Funny cuz i was gonna ask the exact same question!

That is normal, and where you want to be really. I've noticed that my o2 voltge at WOT is around .94, which is around the second to last green led's on the gauges. Its a bit rich for WOT N/A, but our engines like to run rich, over other types of engines.

Get a S-afc and take away some fuel, and you will find up to 10 hp gain from just putting the air/fuel ration where it should be

Please note tuning the safc should be done on a dyno with a wideband o2 sensor to prevent going lean

You should also have a EGT guage to watch your temps.

But yes our cars run super rich from the factory to prevent engine damage if someone were to say put piss water gas in and try to drag race.

Having a bad o2 sensor will also cause you to run even richer.

well my next performance modification is a turbo kit, since Ive pretty much done all of the intake and exhaust mods that I can do (well without replacing pieces that will be replaced when I get the kit). But if the one till the last one is .94v what is the very last one?? Sorry, I dont know what i did with the instructions

the last blinky led is .97 to 1.0 vdc

well shit, i know thats too rich. I guess I need to go ahead and replace that O2 sensor.
