I have never installed anything in my engine. always paid someone to do it for me. I don't want to pay anymore because I want to learn how to do it myself.

So could someone please give me some kind of guide to follow on how to take off my stock intake and then install a new one. and i also need to put the air filter on the intake too.

first open the filter box and remove the air filter and then take out the bolts holding the air box to the car

then remove the hose clamp holding the air filter tube to the throttle body near the firewall, unhook the hose coming from the valve cover and pull the old air tube out.

now install the new tube/clamps/filter and your done

Seriously this mod is almost idiot proof, you just remove the old parts and slap the new ones on, unles you ride the short bus to school (no offense to anyone who does) this is easier than putting pants on in the morning

first undo the elbow from the throttlebody. then work your way towards the airbox behind the front left headlight undoing all bolts/screws that are holding stock unit in place. remove stock unit. to install an aftermaket cold air intake, put the 2.5" X 2.5" coupler on the throttlebody, place 2.5" hose clamp on throttlebody side of the coupler. next, put 2.5" hoseclamp over side of coupler closest to the battery. then put air intake pipe(do not install filter until end) into the coupler. loosely tighten both 2.5" hose clamps. the aem/injen intakes use a rubber mount to hold the mounting bracket on the stock screw location. most other colad air systems require custom bracket modification. once all is loosely tightened, install air filter element from the underside of the car. the pipe will show right inside the left front bumper. tighten clamp loosely. now, review all parts, make sure you have installed everything. if air intake system needs to be moved, thats why you didnt tighten everything. move piping to best fit. starting from the throttlebody working towards the filter underneith the car, tighten all hiseclamps and mounts to maximum tightness. for a short ram air intake, use the same process for removing stock intake, but all lower mounts underneith the car will not be neccessary. the most common mount for a short ram intake is on the drivers side of the valve cover. once again, most intakes besides aem/injen require custom bracket modifications, for this, you may use pipe hanger strapping that you may buy at your local hardware store. i hope i helped, have fun, be safe, good luck!

which kind of intake did you get first of all, cuz I had to modify my ebay intake in order for it to fit.

i second i had to modify my 60$ ebay intake to make it fit also that would be harder for a begineer

if it was a known brand and everything fits right follow above instrustions and that should be it

yeah that's gonna happen.....thought I was all cool when I painted My AEM intake to match my calipers and a few other things on the car.....got impatient about actually having a cold air intake....and put it on later that day.
Now I have a custom blue AEM with several really crappy looking silver patches.

put a piece of silicone hosing over the battery brackets piece that hits your intake and it should stop it from messing up the intake.

Installing my intake was the first mod I *ever* did to any car. I enjoyed it so much, now 2 years later, I've gone turbo and am rebuilding my whole engine for even more fun.

yeah, the intake i got was $50 from ebay.

I was able to take off the stock intake, but not the airbox. I need to buy some more tools to take that off.

so when I tried to put the new one on, it doesn't seem to fit. the battery is in the way. I even tried picking up the battery then put in the intake and put the battery back where it goes. that didn't work.


so what else should i try to do?
