Had my Eclipse taken to Pep Boys to have that new clutch, and all other clutch related stuff done..took em almost 4 full days, but they did it..i had my mom pick it up for me, and when i got back from some errands, i decided to bust out the eclipse to see what no slippage felt like..From the point i put my clutch pedal to the floor, it felt odd...I dont know but...my brothers 99 eclipse 5spd's clutch pedal is vibrant, and very springy..before i had my new clutch put in, i had very little vibrance and spring to it...now, the new clutch goes right to the floor, NO pressure whatsoever...this cant be right, can it? Maybe this is how it is...or whatever...dont know...can you guys help me out, tell me whats up? and how i can go about fixing it?

It needs to break in. Pedal feel will come back within time. Depending on what kind of clutch you got, most brand new clutches will act like on -off swithces for a little bit. Just give it time, it should get better. Do you know if they put in new clutch fliud? Or did anything to the clutch hydrolic system? It may have not been bled enough of any air...

Check for fluid and bleed the clutch line. My bet is that there is air in the line and they did not take the time to bleed the system.

If you need help to do this, just reply back with a post that says "how do I bleed my clutch line".

It's perfectly normal. New clutches have NO pressure or reponsiveness for the first few hundred miles. It'll start to feel normal again within a week.

you guys are FAST! Anyways, it makes me feel better to know that it needs to be broken in...my brother has a 99 RS, and his clutch pedal is MAD springy...like..you really have to shove your foot on that thing to keep it down, and it shoots right back up with the release of your foot. I like that..will it be like that? Right Right then, moving on to the next question to check and see...

How do i bleed my clutch line??

Checked my clutch fluid reservoir...everything was filled and looked A- Ok...

I'll check tomorrow morning, hopefully someone will post on how i can bleed my clutch line...cant be too hard, eh??

If you feel that it needs to be bled then take it back to the shop.... I'm sure you paid enough to have it done, they might as well do it right.

little bit of an update..

Drove my car to and from class this morning, and out and about for lunch...Clutch pedal is slowly regaining pressure, after 50 miles of use. Things seem to be ok now..i hope.. = )

Glad it worked out for ya. I changed my clutch line(stainless) when I did the clutch. I filled everything up and pumped the pedal numerous times. Held it to the floor and then my buddy opened the bleed screw until my clutch pedal rested on the floor. Then he retightened it slightly and I repeated the process half a dozen times till no air and fresh fluid came streaming out twice in a row. I topped off the reservoir with more fluid. My clutch had plenty of pressure and felt normal as soon as I drove it out of the shop.

Maybe they did not bleed it(not necessary)when they put everything back together. I have always bleed my clutch and brake system everytime I work on them. I also replace both fluids once a year due to all the racing/autocrossing I do. But that is just me.

I also have the clutch restrictor removed(3 years ago).

**it may seem stupid, but check to make sure your spring is on the clutch pedal....never know**
