34681, TB options - Need help and opinions
Posted by tacoman123, Oct-12-02 05:05 AM
Just wondering..
Which one would be more beneficial..
A quad TB setup or a 6x MM Jeep TB.

I know you would have to do modifications to the ECU so you can work the Quad TB. Would that be hard? What tools would you need to know? Do you have to know hex or some programming language to mod the ECU?

I know that you would have to do some modifications to the Intake manifold to work the Jeep TB. Is there a write-up for that?

Thanks

There is a writeup for converting to a Jeep TB for a Neon. Thier TBs are very similar to ours. There are some minor differences. I'll have a writeup for the Eclipse conversion as soon as I finish it.
Neon writeup - http://www.geocities.com/lover232/Enjoy.html

In general there you can use any 91-99 Jeep TB. All of them have a 60mm bore, but some of them taper to 55mm on the outlet side. Some dude in Austrailia has a writeup on how to remove the taper. Easy enough with a drill press...or even just a drill if you have a steady hand.

There are a few outfits that bore these sukkas anywhere from 62mm up to 68mm. This dude Dino has a site with some good info on the different aftermarket options for Jeep Intakes/TBs.

As far as the intake manifold goes - just port match it to the Jeep TB with a dremmel, after you've removed the taper of course. You should be golden as long as it lets the whole 60mm of air in. Like I said, I'll have a writeup once I'm done. I'm taking tons of pics along the way. I've finished the actual TB conversion. I still need to fashion an idle set screw, remove the taper, and port the intake. Anyway, here's a bit of a preview for you.

Quad throttle body write-up from the neon board, supposedly works fine with the stock neon ecu, but you really need a higher rev limit to take full advantage of it, and probalby more fuel, maybe the afx ecu and safc will work just fine

Well I cant really tell you how to go about making a quad tb set up, but I think you would need cams and some other things to really take advantage of it. I do know that with this jeep TB I felt a very nice power increase and that I would do it over again if I had to. Hell the other night I came across a Z28 that just raced an Civic EX and when I gave him the TB whistle he got scared and shook his head no, lol. I thought it was just fucking great to intimidate a V8 from doing nothing but letting him hear my car suck in air :)

:)scared by the TB whistle that is awesome, I just laughed so hard my boss called from 3 offices down the hall to see what happened

Screw that BOV generator, just punch a small hole in the TB and your all set to give them the TB salute

lol, yeah I was laughing my ass of when it happened. The TB also makes a slight chirping noise when you just open or close it, which could sound like a BOV to those that dont know, but it really doesnt sound like one. Also I know your playing, but im sure some people may read this and take it seriously, so NOBODY take a drill to your TB to make it whistle. Just buy a jeep TB setup from me

Woah is the whistle actually that loud or what? You just step on it and it starts or do you go WOT?

I'm guessing its the same loudness as a short ram intake (when you hit 4 grand you get a nice whistle/suction sound) right?

Damn I wish I had money and turn around time for this mod

there is really no down time if you pay the 275, and we refund you 100 bucks once we get your stock pieces. But yeah it is loud. I was visiting my parents this weekend at Ft. Lee VA and the troops check your ID before they let you on base. Well when I take off in first gear it starts to whistle and gets louder and louder until you get to WOT and my exhaust drowns it out. Anyway, the next time I came through the gate the soldiers were like what the hell you got in this thing man, ive never heard anything like it. I was liek its just the car sucking in air and they were like WHOA, this thing must be fast as shit, lol.

How much would each cost? Can you give me a break down of the prices?

Also, is it true that you would have to modify the ECU, when you have the Quad TB?

Does anyone have a sound file of how the Jeep TB sounds?

Thanks

I have our prices listed in the sale/wanted section, but you would definitely need a higher redline to fully use the quad tb's potential and the only way you can do that is with an ECU change

>Also, I found a 88 Jeep. Can I use that TB?

I'm just not sure. The important things to look for are going to be the intake bolt pattern/offset and the sensor fittings. I saw an 88 in a junkyard(before I bought mine off ebay) and it looked alot like the one in the Neon writeup. It was still on the manifold and I just didn't get it because, well, I've been told that the 90's models TB will work. Take a close look at it. If you can match you eclipse sensor housings up to it and the bolt pattern looks similar to the 90's models then it may work. My Jeep TBs manifold holes are 3.5 inches apart from each other center-to-center from one hole to the diagonally opposing hole(how it needs to mount on our manifold). The IAC sensor housing on my 91-95 Jeep TB looks exactly like the Eclipse one, except the pins are facing a different direction. Here's some side by side shots I took of the Jeep and Eclipse TBs.

The 88's might work - you're going to have to tell us though. :)
