34661, 2.2L swap
Posted by tacoman123, Oct-12-02 03:14 AM
I'm learning about the extra displacment swaps like the 2.4L and the 2.2L ..

From doing some research, I learned the 2.2L swap would be much easier than the 2.4L.. such as modifications to the oil pan, new mounts etc etc..

But, what would I need to do to accomplish the 2.2L swap?
Would it be a direct bolt-on?

What cars would I be able to get the 2.2L from?

Is there a write-up on it?

Also.. if I wanted to get internals..
Can I use internals from the 2.5L or do I get internals for the 2.0L or do I have to get some custom made internals? I know about Howell.. but I'm seeing my other options.

i think the 2.2L youre looking at is a stroker kit for the engine you already have. They sell them at howell automotive. It would be much easier and more cost effective to do a stroker than to do a 2.4L swap.

I thought you could get it out of something like a LeBaron.

Ive never heard of that! but if you get the stroker kit you wont have to do anything to your car to make it fit. U will use the 420a block you already have. You wont have to f with the oil pan or motor mounts.
Im sure that what you are saying can be done but it would be a pain in the ass.

No, the 2.2L you want is the stroker the 2.2L out of a LeBaron or other late 80's to mid 90's Chrysler cars is a throttle body injection SOHC motor. You don't want to swap to this motor, you would loose power.

Not to jump into this guys post, but what kind of RPM's could a balanced 2.2 and 2.4 take? Also are the 2.2's basically just a custom stroked crank that comes with a block? TIA

they are runnign teh 2.4's to 9k rpm all the time and its taking it...

the 2.4 motors are pretty strong if u upgrade the internals..
