34623, SOHC 2nd GEN ?????? Posted by chrysler kid, Oct-11-02 01:52 PM
I thought all 2nd gen eclipses were 2.0 DOHC, but i saw this spyder on ebay and i got confused, did the SOHC only come in the spyder, or do some of the coupes have it too?

To the best of my knowledge, it's only the Spyder.

NT spyder's come with the 4G64 2.4L SOHC motor (mitsubishi built). the 2gnt spyder's are the only eclipse's to carry this motor.

the reason they put a 2.4 in there is because the spyder is really heavy because it needs chassis reinforcements, so they needed to add extra torque to get it goin.

Yeah.. the 2.4L SOHC 4G64 is in NT Spyders.. Unless some kid wanted to put a SOHC neon head in their 420A powered DSM :P
Anyways.. I know that picture is a Mitsu motor ;-)

the 4g64 is also the motor that goes into the 3g rs/gs eclipse. my buddy has a 3rd gen gs, no matter what we do to that thing, that thing is such a dog. i raced him once, i hit either fuel cut or the rev limiter, and i still beat him. we are both five speeds at that. he wont race me again. for a while, he thought he wouldnt be able to afford payments on it because of school, and i was trying so hard to get him to come to our side, but i guess he likes the new style. later chris

Yeah they're right. The 4g64 is in the 2g spyder and 3g RS. I raced a 2g spyder auto from about a 30mph roll when all I had was my intake, and although she stayed close, I still had her by like a car and a half by the time we hit about 80mph. They aren't anything special, just enough to make up for the extra weight.

all 95-99 rs/gs hardtops have the same 420a. the 4g64 sohc engine was used 97-99 in the spyders, as well as 2000+ in the gs/rs's. if you think that an rs came with the 4g64 engine, its only 2000 and up. and they did not make rs convertibles the only n/t convertible was the gs. they did not make an rs. later chris
