34539, Leakdown test? Posted by Kirby, Oct-10-02 04:56 AM
My GF has an engine problem. I'm sure it's either a blown HG or a cracked head. Will a leakdown test result tell you wich one your dealing with before you pull the head?

A leakdown test will prove if(and how much) the rings are to blame for loss of compression. If you do a leakdown test and you are still getting bad compression then you can blame the valves, valve seats, valve seals, head, head gasket, or a hole in the piston...but it wont pinpoint exactly which one is actually to blame.
