33868, Finished Rebuild...same problem still...need help asap
Posted by REV_GSlow, Sep-30-02 10:29 AM
I finished rebuilding the head, changing the gaskets, timing belt, etc, hoping that this would solve my BAD hesitation problems. Well today i took it for about an hours drive and as soon as i hit my little town on the way home, the car starts sputtering and it feels like i have a really bad miss. The only thing i can think of is the coil pack. If this is the case, if anyone out there knows anyone with an extra coil pack sitting around PLEASE let me know. Thanks for any information

yes. the car starts to hesitate after about an hour of driving, the battery is fine too.

Edit to this...the car only hesitates when im driving down the road, i can rev all day without any misfire

MAP sensor could cause this too. Can you explain the hesitation a little more?

this exact same thing drove me nuts for a month...i'd bet anything that it's your plugs if you haven't yet replaced them, or your coil. if you're getting backfire, then it can't be a lack of fuel(ie fuel filter, clogged injectors), you didn't say anything about backfiring though. could also be a stuck egr. before you do anything else though, change your wires and if that doesn't work, your coil. the msd coil for 97+ might even be out already(they said sept).

Well i just ordered my coil from Napa, 90 bones and it will be here in the morning. heres my list of replacement items to try and correct this problem...
head gasket
valve job
fuel filter
fuel pump
valve cover gasket
spark plug gaskets
spark plugs..like five times
spark plug wires...twice
and probably more. Hopefully this is the last thing i have to buy. Im going to have a brand new engine before its all over with. Thanks for the info people

I know this is an old post but if anyone else is trying to figure their problem out I had the exact same problem and according to the mechanic, one of the wires at the ECU was catching just enough arc from another wire at times to cause me to lose power to my Crankshaft and Camshaft position sensor. Car would hesitate, die, start back up, drive a few miles, and happen again.
