33826, Is there a guide to installing nitrous? and is it easy?

How hard is installing nitrous? Im sure itd be alot cheaper if I bought it online and put it in myself than go to these butt-raping shops in town. How much is a cheap system and how easy will it be? Any opinions appreciated

Yeah theres some systems on ebay for around $400. I dont race, just a daily driver who wants a little button that does something..

Hey but can anyone explain what makes nos nos? I mean when its injected (i guess) into the chambers what makes it so explosive? A really crazy octane rating? Who knows, can anyone explain

First of all, nitrous oxide is not NOS. Everybody got that from that ridiculous fast and furious movie. NOS means nitrous oxide systems which is currently the leader in nitrous oxide technology and putting out systems.

Anyway, nitrous oxide has the formula N20, therefore 2 nitrogens for every oxygen in each molecule. Nitrous oxide that you can buy also has a very small percentage of sulfur so you can't sniff it, thats why cars using it make such a stink. Air is about 21% oxygen, that's what you are putting in your engine. Since N20 is 33% oxygen, it makes a good deal more power since oxygen and gas burning is making your power. Nitrous also gives you a very low charge temperature when it explodes, which works very well on turbocharged cars, it's kind of an intercooler unto itself.

I'm a college engineering student so I hope that answers your question.

I don't know of any good installation instructions online, but the best guide is the instructions that come with a Holley NOS brand system. If enough people would like to see it, I'll be more than happy to scan & put it online.
