It is VERY difficult to swap a 4g63 into a non-turbo eclipse. You have to swap just about everything, not just the engine itself. Not worth the effort IMO.
Not too sure about the 2.4L engine. Why don't you just keep your engine and turbocharge it??

dont mean to be an ass, but use search or check things we've seen before. this questions has been asked a MILLION times.
this is not directed towards you nyspeed, but i swear, everytime i look, someone is asking about the same swap ands ask the same questions. Is it hard, will the ecu work, how much will it cost..etc. I mean, gawd damn, look a few pages back and you will find all the answers your looking for from some other newb who just asked the same thing, 5 days ago.

You know what nappyjim? You're right. For some reason I didn't check the archives this time. DOH! Damn i hate when newbs ask the same question a hundred times too. I needed that.

Yeah would have loved the 2.4L in our car. too bad it wasn't out yet.
That is the swap I would do, probably will do vs. a 2.2L stroker. Cash is a major issue, and with less than 40k on my 2.0L I have some life left before I need to worry about it.
Watch out on the 2.4L bottom ends, apparently some have a different more domed piston... could cause valve interfierance, especially with some high lift cams.
But yeah there are finally some guys going to get us some real good info on what needs to be done here.

Can the moderators post an engine swap thread up top and have it stay there like the instructions for the sale/wanted forum do? I just think that would help a little more. Nothing personal to anyone but I'm tired of all these how can I swap a 4g63 into my car posts.

neither engine would be worth swap unless you can get the 2.4 for cheap as shit... Am I the only one who thinks theres not much gain fron the 2.4?
|
33803, RE: Which swap and why? 2.4 liter or 4g63 Posted by The1Bill, Oct-02-02 02:27 PM
It is a 22% increase in the displacement of the motor. 22%. That is the same as boring and stroking a 350 out to 427 cubic inches. That is a hefty gain. Another thing to realize is that the gain is entirely in stroke, not in bore, so this will gain a lot more torque then horsepower, but since the rods are longer (heh) the rod angle is no worse. The rev-ability that is lost is minor for that reason. To rev high, however, I would recommend a fully balanced bottom end. Anyways, if you hadn't noticed, I think that this will be a more then worthwhile swap. My math shows that this motor will increase the power of a 2GNT the same amount as a Stage 1 turbokit. A 2.4L equipped 2GNT should, however, be quicker then a stage 1 turbo'd 2gnt due to the disproportionate increase in torque. I will let you all know as soon as I finish putting my car back together and get it on a dyno. -=B-=

On the recommendation of a balanced bottom end, remove the balancing shafts. With a balanced bottom end they do nothing but sap power.

Uh, that's what I meant. Remove the balance shafts and balance the bottom end. I did just that, well, without the whole balancing the bottom end part. :D So yeah, stock bottom end and no balance shafts. That, and a set of energy suspension motor mount inserts and some windo weld... and the passenger side motor mount will be solid. Seen vibrations? I will! -=B-=

Yeah I've tried the solid motor mount on my Neon... talk about vibration... wow!
Speaking of motor mounts, I'm curious on what you did with passenger side, and some other things. I'll probably bug you next time I see you on IM.
