per say, i got the money for a block/head and i build them up, but i dont drop it in the car for a few months will that effect it? since i know you must lube the internals with oil etc when building?. this is the route i am thinking about doing, and just let it sit in the garage on a engine stand, or floor for a few months and drop it in if i decided to or pay someone to do it since this is my daily car. also im thinking about if i get a spare block/head what should i have check/done before installing all the parts since it will be used/junkyard deal? im also thinking about letting a friend install all the internals and head part at a later time.. so yah let me know what you all think i should do...

if u pour power punch in the cyls it will save u from rusting in the cyl walls and it will burn off when u fire it up,

pour 'power punch'? whats thats? how long can i go with doing anything or adding anything about?

OK no big deal. 1st go get a junkyard motor. It's kinda hard to see what would be wrong w/ it until it's clean and been magnafluxed for cracks. Same w/ the head. A good machine shop will take care of you there and it would cost about 60 bones.
As for the building and setting, use moly lube on all the bearings. It won't run off like oil. Actually I use that stuff over oil because of that and gives a more consistent break-in wear on those lower-end bearings. You will have to use like a brake cleaner or something similar to clean the cylinders. Once you do that, the pistons will have lube on them from the ring compressor. The reason for the brake cleaner, is to get rid of crap but it also gets rid of water and moisture. Keep the motor in a nice dry cool area under a garbage bag. If you feel the need, Summit sells engine bags. If you do build some surface rust on the cylinders before installation, no prob. Just use some emmery cloth to take it off. Just make sure you clean all rust that you just sanded off that could get into the lower end.

1) Buy block

2) Take to machine shop for hot tanking, magnaflux, and clearance checks

3) Rebuild as normal, using assembly lube on the bearings

4) Using a lint free cloth, wipe the motor down with a light coat of oil. Everywhere.

5) Mummify it in Saran Wrap (use a whole roll)

6) Store on an engine stand

When you are ready to install it, clean the block with carb cleaner and wipe dry.

no cams, lifters, or rockers

power punch isa product u can buy at any auto parts usually we coat the cyl walls and piston dome with it and then when u start the motor it all burns off pretty flamible but it keeps the metal lubed in the mean time...

cover it up lube it somhow...
