My pulley is making so much noise that I want to remove it and get a smaller belt. I just want to know if its impossible?

I want to remove the tension pulley and just use the power steering pulley to apply the tension needed.

Just let me know what you think?

No how are you going to get a belt around and actually get it tight?
I just replaced mine. $118 total.

my tensioner nut broke, so i set the pully in as far as it would go and locked it down. i use the ps pump to tension the belt, but i don't think you could totally eliminate the pully. maybe jst take it out and clean and lube it.

All you have to do is replace the bearing in the pulley. Satan wants somewhere around $150 for the whole tensioner assembly, but jamesman(BEARING MAN) found a cheap replacement bearing from Mcmaster Carr for around $7. I had a whisle on that bearing for years, till I replaced it with the Mcmaster Carr bearing. Fits like a glove and works like a charm. It's even stronger then the one that comes on the dealer's $150 replacement assembly.

I removed my tensioner pelley and air conditioner unit. You can use the p.s. for take up then.

Is there a bearing we can replace on the *timing belt* idler pulleys too? Or is it best to just buy new whole pulleys for the 60k service?

I hope so, that would be sweet. Mine is due for a change. The timing belt tensioner is just about the same size and construction of the ps tensioner. I'd measure mine, but it's tensioning the timing belt right now.

Does someone have one of these assemblies lying around? If you could please pull and measure the bearing for:
a) shaft diameter
b) outside diameter
c) width

Mcmaster Carr lists a hell of alot of bearings. The bearings we'd need for the timing belt tensioner should be somewhere around page 981. Or just post the measurements and I'll look it up.

if you can get the part number for that bearing, i can run it at my work and see what part numbers i come up with for it.

Yes you can, I am running mine straight from UDP to PS pulley. The part # for a belt from NAPA to do it is 25-050375. Fits like a glove if you have a UDP on, not sure for standard pulleys though....

ok so far, i didn't find a part number for the bearing at advance auto parts but this is what i did find. i found a part number for a pulley for a 96 or 97 chrysler sebring 2.0liter engine with vin code Y. though the pulley looks nothing like the stock one it does bring in some question to whether it will work. the part number is at my house. i will post it when i get home. i'll also look for the bearing, which'll be a long search.

ok the part number for the pulley i found was 89006. that's the part number from Advance Auto Parts.

some of you are talking about the timing belt and some are talking about the accessory belt pulleys. dont get confused
