^^^^^ is there a way you can see "into" your trans to see how much of a clutch you have left? (without removing it from the engine)? thanks.

No. The only opening is where the TO bearing lever is and that is pretty far away from the clutch. Besides the material to check is facing the engine so you couldn't see if from there.

*edit* you MIGHT be able to see by unbolting the tranny and not actually taking it out of the car. There is still a descent amount of work involved in that though.

The easiest way to check if your clutch is on it's last legs is by doing the slip test. Drive up to 25mph, then put it in 5th and floor it. If the revs go up fast, your clutch is slipping. If the car bogs, you're still in good shape.

needle jumps little bit, like half a line on my tach, but that could probably be due to the tolerances b/t gears and such or because of my motor mounts... still factory, guess i should get some new ones (153k)

you can see the clutch if you remove the lower bedplate that covers the lower half of the flexplate side of the clutch. You can get that plate off and see the entire lower half of the clutch without doing anything to the tranny.

stop car, put in second gear, and see if you can start off like that...if you can the clutch is good to go

Ok now that I have my foot out of my mouth I want to say that's cool. To bad you can't swap the clutch through that hole ;)
