Im replacing my head gasket as we speak. Im going to block the egr valve as well as a few things to the head..are there any other mods i can do that are relativly cheap while i have the motor apart? TIA

Hey man, I'm gonna be doing what your doing soon so can you tell me what you use to get the head bolts out with? I haven't gotten this far inside yet and I would like to be prepared when I do.

Well i havent pulled the head off yet, thats waiting for me in the morning. I THINK that you have to have a type of allen wrench socket and a breaker bar, or a fairly large socket wrench. From what im told, you should only loosen the bolts halfway first, in order, the the rest of the way in order. This job is a beeyotch, so if you have a friend that is decent with tools and competant, bring them along. You will have to do some drilling in the engine bay to remove certain bolts. Look up XtremeRS in his posts, get the timing belt procedure from him. That helps a ton. Some people got the head off without pulling out the cams, but I have no idea how. You really need to pull the cams off 1st, then you can get at the bolts with a socket and extension pretty easily. Don't forget, there is a removal sequence for taking off the cams so that you dont warp the head. I believe that there is also a removal sequence for taking off the head bolts. Obviously there is a sequence for putting both the head and the cams back in as well. Dino's site has the service manual online with all of this info including the torque specs I believe http://www.heavenz-not-0verflowing.com/files .

Port and polish, but have someone else do it. It shouldn't be too expensive if you have the head already off. Valve job too. I've heard that shaving or milling the head will make it seat incorrectly on the block, but it would be really nice to do as well.

Woah woah woah. I didn't have to do any drilling and you shouldn't either!:nono All you need to get the head bolts out is a wabble extention. You can pick it up at any sears or good tool store. It fits in the sockett and allows it to rock while still connected to the extention. You do have to remove them in order. (I didn't but I got lucky and it didn't warp because my comp. #'s are great.) You don't need an allen wrench to remove anything. I used one to keep the tension assembly tight buy pushing it through the hole. Do get the service manuel downloaded and get write ups on the T belt procdure.
Edit DO BUY A BREAKER BAR IT WILL BE YOUR BEST FRIEND!!!!! :D

I wasnt talking about drilling on the head..lol im not retarded. I was talking about the bolts on the front of the motor that hold the motor mount. You have to drill through the frame as well as above it to remove those bolts.

Oh ok my bad!! but you don't have to do that either you just have to raise and lower the engine plus once they are out of the thread you can rotate the mount plate itself and get it off. I don't care witch way you guy's go but I did it easy enough without drilling.
