Ok I made a post last week about a metal to metal grinding noise and since then ive taken it to yet another garage which makes it 5 garages now. Ok the guy at the fifth garage says he really thinks its the bearings by the cv axel but one thing makes him think it could be the transmission. He said he has never come across anything like this. OK this is what my car is doing.

The metal to metal grinding sound only occurs if im coasting but if I press on the gas pedal or the brake then it stops.(This is what makes him think it might be the tranny. while coasting if you turn it to the wheel to the right it makes the noise get louder which makes him think its the bearings...because when you turn the wheel to the right its putting all the load on the left driver side...but that is also where the tranny is. If anyone has had this problem or just knows what the problem is then please lemme know. Its been a month now and still no true diagnosis.

The guy at the #5th garage wants me to drive it till the noise gets reasonably worse to make a better analasis. any help would be greatly appriciated. tia

sometimes the dust shield or what ever it is, that is right behind the front calipers gets bent and can cause that sound, maybe check that out, or Im was having the similar noise when I turned my wheel and it turned out to be a bent rim, I only noticed one day when by accident I switched the front wheels and the noise went to the other side. Or it could be your ball joints if you havent done the recall yet

I called the local dealership to see if I needed the recall done. The guy asked me for my vin and then he said I didn't have any open recalls on my car. I wonder if he was lying just so they wouldn't have to do a recall. A lot of ppl have been asking me if I had the ball join recall done. I bought the car used in July of 2001. When did the ball joint recall come out? tia

its been out for a while but alot of people have just gotten the notices, I would call the chrysler customer service number and give them your vin number. and if you need it done, dont just let them inspect it which is what they try to do, force them to replace them like the should. If they refuse talk to the manager and if he refuses call chrysler/mitsubishi customer service and complain and they will force the dealer to fix them.

The dealership has no reason to lie to you like that, they actually MAKE money by doing this recall so it is in their best interests. (mitsu pays them for like two hours labor + parts, and it takes them less than an hour the change them)
