33378, Any news on that prototype Block? Posted by 420AYE, Sep-21-02 06:09 AM
I only remember reading that one main post about the alluminum block that was probably going to be created. I am really looking forward to this. Someone please fill me in.

do you know where that post was? i've looked and looked and looked, no luck at all. yes, i've searched also. a link would be greatly appreciated. i'm also awaiting this, but on the howell board they said they need a certain number of people to give money up front or it wouldn't be made. i would but can't right now. i've also posted on the board to get more info on it, no luck...rrrr

Seriously, I hope people do give money to get this block made. It would be incredible. I mean, no more people ragging on eclipse's because they have a "little 4 banger"...they'd all be wishin they had a 3.0L I4 that boosts 60psi. jesus.... yeah, where did that thread go? it was huge. I know there is interest in it. And where did you hear about the money needing to be up front? Gary! Fill us in please.

go to his new web site - message boards - then to the DSM sections. you'll see where the post is. i want that block to compete with supras...thats not too much to ask is it? }>

Stocker supra's will go down left and right. And i think that the vehicle accident rate will go up as well... :( oh well, you get what you pay for :D. I mean, 2400 bucks is nothing compared to how much you'd have to pay to get one done just for you. They quoted 18g's for just one block. Thats why they need people to support it. The thing i want the most is the displacement. Anyone ever heard of a 3.0l I4 eclipse? Or a Haunduh for that matter.

largest I4 motor i've seen (in a car) had a displacement of 2.5L's, not too shabby.. was in the old POS chevy citations.. with a peice of work.. but damn did it have HUGE pistons.. hehe.

Yeah that's as big as I've seen too. I had a 2.5L I4 in my 81 AMC Spirit...till I swapped it out for a I6 Jeep 258.
The 2.5 was allright, but it couldn't pull wheelies like the 6. }>

wheelies eh? do some for me cuz i'm fwd :(...WAIT! i could in reverse... not enuff powah! i could always weld some huge bar onto my bumper that sticks way out in front of my car and put a bunch of weights on it... then i'd be doin wheelies backwards :)

hmm well biggest 4 banger I've seen is the engine in the Mitsubishi Starion (conquest) 2.6 liter I4 turbo.

You have got to be kidding me???? a 3.0 liter block????? thats ungodly....if someone did that to the car just think of the power....but just think of the reinforcing youd have to do to the car to hold together with that kind of power....our cars arent built like a toyota supra...we would need some MAJOR reinforcing done just to keep vibrations down and flexing....plus the weight on the front end...holy large block batman...I seriously dont think our subframe and body could hold that much power

You have to understand that the displacement alone wont create a GIGANTIC amount of hp. It might put people around 200 or 220 hp with stock compression pistons. The real power is to be made from slapping a ton of boost or nitrous on it...because the internals and crank WILL be able to handle it. 5000 hp crank is ungodly so you would never have to worry about it. It doesnt come with pistons so you would need to buy a Howell Bottom End kit with forged pistons. The way it makes you fast is by dropping a couple hundred lbs, evening out the weight distribuition, and adding some hp. This block is streetable but is more ideal for a racing engine. I want to buy one just for the street.

thanks for the link :) man i can't wait till my settlement. pppppllllleeeeeaaaaasssse Gary make this block!!!! maybe try for a T76 or something for the turbo...hehe...hopefully that is. i'm making no promises. but if it all works out. i'm gonna beat HRC! if not, damn that sucks. just have to slowly build i guess.

I heard something bout the block supporting up to 1500 horses etc etc or something, not positive though.

The biggest production inline 4 block that I've seen is in the Porsche 968. It's a 3.0L 4 banger with 236hp and 225ft/lbs. The CR wasn't that high, but with a 104mm bore, it didn't have to be.

that's crazy, my 90 "Buck" Skylark had a stock 2.5L Kinda quick 4 a 4banger (and a pos buick). wish i could put that on a dyno. hmmm... I would but it's now my sisters, and it just doesn't run like when it was mine. If it had the talon's suspension, manual trans, etc... I don't know what I would take... Prob the talon (no rust)
