If i convert to a nonmodular clutch setup will it remove my flexplate? The reason I ask is because at one point in time I had a stage 3 spec clutch and it broke my flexplate 3 times(about every 5000 miles), and at $500 everytime i need to get it fixed it wasnt worth it so i put a stock clutch back in. But next month I plan on putting in a built motor and NER stage 3 turbo and dont feel like blowing my flexplate every month. TIA for any help.

with a non-modular clutch you'll need to replace the 'flexplate' with an actual standard 'flywheel' like in most manual cars... damn weird ass chrysler trannies.. hehe.

I do believe that both the modular and non modular clutches use the same flexplate (flexplate is the plate that has the starter teeth on it). The only difference in modular and non mod clutches is that with modular, the whole clutch assembly(pressure plate, clutch disk, flywheel) are rivited together. Non mod clutches, the flywheel bolts to the pressure plate, making it possible to replace the clutch disk. Both setups bolt to the flexplate regardless. I have never heard of breaking a flexplate? Wow..

Yea, I have the SPEC stage 3 clutch with the Fidanza aluminum flywheel in right now. I had to bolt up the stock flexplate to the fidanza flywheel because the fidanza doesnt have the teeth on it for the starter. I dont understand how you would break that thing unless you were just bolting the clutch up directly to that plate and I don't think that's even possible...

I dont really know how the damn thing kept breaking either. But anyways, what flywheel would i use then to get rid of the flexplate? I need one with teeth. Thanks for all your help.

i would think they all would.. since that is one of the main purposes of the 'flywheel' I mean.. they only have three purposes and on all 'normal' MTX cars.. they are the gear for starting the car, they are a large weight to help slow down the revin/de-revin process, and they are what the clutch pushes up agains (i'm pretty sure on the last one) but i've never seen a flywheel that didn't have the outgear on it for starting the car.
I know there are guys around here with Fidanza flywheels.. one of them should answer and just verify that it had the starter gear on it.. atleast if they did the install themselves.. hehe.

I have the fidanza and I installed it myself. It does not have the starter teeth on it. You just bolt it up to the stock flexplate the same way that you do with the stock flywheel. I would think that you cant eliminate the flexplate, because if you did, the clutch disk and pressure plate would be too far out on the transmission spline. There may be a thicker flywheel out there to compensate for the flexplate, but I haven't seen one. I still have no Idea how the heck you broke a flexplate... something has to be installed wrong for that to happen.

I would usually agree with you on that it was installed wrong, but like i stated earlier, it broke 3 times on me. What was happeneing was the center hub would just break away from the rest of the flexplate. There has got to be a flywheel with teeth on it so that i can remove the flexplate.

I'm not aware of anyone who makes a flywheel with the starter teeth on it for our cars. You may want to call up some places that specialize in clutches, they may have an answer. Maybe try calling Hahn racecraft, or Howell automotive.. I just dont think one is made like what you want...
