I dont know if anyone has come up with the solution of getting rid of the CEL when you take off all the EGR stuff, but I think I did. I came up with a device that gives off the same resistance as the EGR solenoid, and makes the code 36 CEL go away!!! If anyone is interested E-mail me and i'll give specifics.

hmmm..I'm not sure what that code really means, but i did the EGR blockoff, i just took off the metal pipe and blocked off the passages, but left on everything else. I get a code of insufficient flow detected from the EGR system, about every 3 days or so. From what i have heard, 95 year cars, if everything is left on the car and connected, just the blockoff done, that you wont get a code. For 96+ obd2 cars, the ecu performs and EGR test. The ecu will close off the idle air control valve in the TB, and then it will open up the EGR valve to compensate for the closed IAC. If the ECU doesnt detect the air flow coming from the EGR valve, it throws the code. I really dont think there is any way around that, other than a reprogramed ECU?

I think i have found that remedy, the computer is triggering the solenoid looking for a resistane value (by the incoming air) I came up with something that throws the resistace back that the computer is looking for without actually having the soleniod in place, so it eliminates that CEL 36 when you remove the EGR system.

if thats the case, then that would be awsome. But i have that solenoid hooked up, along with the electricals. The ECU doesnt know if the actual exaust gases are passing into the intake, which is why it performs the IAC and egr test. My EGR valve is still opening when it should be, but there is just no flow there, because its just blocked off. I'm interested in this though.. I dont believe there is any air sensor by the egr too? But maybe you are just talking about those who have the actual solenoid removed? Cause that will cause a code too...

I think he's talking about the "no solenoid hooked up" code. I just keep my solenoid plugged in electrically to avoid that code. Or, you could hook up a resistor (high wattage) to simulate solenoid coils. You will still get the "insufficient flow" code. The only way to avoid that is to allow the EGR system to send air into the intake manifold (it doesn't have to be from the exhaust). Some 1995 AT cars still get the "insufficient flow" code. They are supposed to be OBDI and the ECU is not supposed to check for that. But some still get that code (ME!). I just clear it with the datalogger and go about my business. I do keep my solenoid hooked up electrically to avoid the "no solenoid hooked up" code.

Well I get code 32 is that the no flow code? I can't seem to get this CEL to go away. It goes away every now and again but then comes back. Is this the CEL that would be eliminated?

corbin, i have a question for you. if the egr system just needs to send air into the intake manifold, would it be possible to just tap the intake hose after the filter and send that straight to the maifold, then block off the exhaust port that normally goes to the solenoid? im planning on doing a "PVC/cheap-ass filter" CAI soon, and i could probably try this out. ive got a 95 gs a/t.

keeping the check engine light from coming on just takes two vacuum caps. i don't know how the fuc to post a pic but if anybody wants to email me, i'll send you the pick and you can post it. its got 2 arrows showing the spots to cap.

I just thought I'd add that I have an obd1 1995 MT and I also get the insufficient flow code...
