I have been getting CEL with the AFC being hooked up for ages now. not sure if I have a messed up ECU or AFC :(
I finally found out why my CEL keeps going on, well I now know how to solve it but I would rather now.
I hooked up my AFC power to the battery (even if the car is off my AFC was still on) and guess what, now more CEL.
I had it hooked to the ECU main power wire and for some reasons the AFC will restart itself as soon as I crank the car and the CEL will come on the second time I start the car. tried hooking it up to a regular ignition wire and still that did not help. I went crazy and hooked the AFC power wire to almost all 12V wires in the car with no luck.
can you guys with AFC help me out by doing that for me.
put the key in the ignition and click it twice, you see now how your AFC is on eventhough the car is not running, now crank the car and see if the AFC shuts off and starts itself while you are cranking the car.

both my afc and turbo timer do that.

there are power sources in the fuse box that come on with the accessory postion and STAY powered while cranking. maybe you can hook it up to that so it doesn't shut itself off when you're cranking. i dunno if that's the problem but that's all i can think of.

It has to be due to the fact that most of the power sources in the car (including the radio) are turned off while you are cranking it. I don't know any power sources that would stay on, so I think your best bet is to leave it connected straight to the battery, so it can constantly be on. I hope I make sense...its 5:30 am and I have a final at 8 am...gotta study!!!

I have mine hooked up to the ECU power wire (big white one with black stripe ... or the other way around). Anyway, mine doesn't turn on off when cranking the car. Wouldn't think that the ecu would do that during cranking either.

If you can find a lead that is powered while the started is cranking go with that one. You could put a switch in so you aren't draining your battery when the car is off. Otherwise you'd have to get creative with wiring things and relays and , and.....

the only creative idea that I could come up with, is to hook it up directly to the battery and also hook it to the turbo timer that I have so it will go off after whatever time I set the timer at. not yet sure how to do it, or if it's gonna work. I tried hooking it up with a switch, it worked for a little while, and the cel came on again, maybe I switched it off too soon I guess, it seems like the ECU needs some time after I turn the car off so not trigger the CEL.

Now I'm just tossing something out that's completely weird. Some kind of curcuit to hold a charge and use the ecu power to trip a relay that would allow current to flow to this curcuit, so in the few second the engine is cranking the AFC can pull power stoed in this circuit till the ECU power trips the relay and pulls power back to the circuit. Something like a the farrad? caps used in high power amp set ups, they store power so you don't drain the battery in surges. Let me know what you think or if I don't make any sense.

LAST EDITED ON 13-Jun-01 AT 01:45 PM (PST)The SAFC is now part of your PCM, so it should share power from your PCM...
Remember the ECU sees NO signal from the MAP sensor anymore with the SAFC powered off.
Also, should your turbo timer ever turn off while you are driving, your entire car will die. My Blitz MSTT can be turned off while driving....
If you wanna be extra creative, use a small (VERY small) relay to power on and off the SAFC. Activate the relay with the PCM's power line. A word of warning though... an "average" relay will use as much (if not more) power than the SAFC would.

There is a wire on your ignition switch that stays powered while cranking (ig2). I forget what color it is 'though. Book is outside in the car, and I am tired :(
A.D.P. Bring it on............
