I am getting tons of mixed answers.. Does anyone have a nonturbo eclipse who has put on a straightpipe with a catback exhaust? If you have a straightpipe does it help alot at all rpm ranges? What size straightpipe do you have?

I straight piped my last eclipse, it helped but nothing super. Biggest gain was after 4000RPM I gained 18HP yet that was with intake and header all combined into one. I was unable to put it on a Dyno between each seperate mod. I had 3 inch pipe with no Cat. (Illegal in I think all states, yet ohio does not have checks)

PS. I also tuned it up between mods which I kind of regret doing since Im sure that helped the numbers.

I have straight pipe all the way... no cats, no muff, no resonators, no 02 sensors, blah blah... its LOUD. 3'' downpipe, 4'' straight pipe = very fuggin' annoying to other cars... but me.. i like it just fine ;-) Other than sometimes i feel like people think i am trying to go fast when i am just driving normal, but then again i dont really care about other people... so...

^^^ ya got a turbo in there man.. it's not exactly a 'straight' pipe.. cause that turbo will cutdown/change the sound alot as compared to a NA that is straight piped.

hey you still have that picture from underneath your car showing the four inch straight piping? I thought that was nuts when you posted that awhile back.

excuse my ignorance but don't they have emissions tests where you live? What do you do to pass them?

that has to be the loudest car on the highway, four inch, isn't that what the pipes are on the big rigs?

Yes, it's loud :-) But not too bad, i have the stereo pumping mostly anyways... There are emmision laws in indiana, but only like 5 counties, all in extreme southern indiana, closest to ky border... i live in one of those counties, but i registered at another counties liscense branch.... Cops want me to get a muffler on it, so i might get a race muffler, straight through design from summit.... not like its gonna do much, but maby it might make them happy.

p.s. it is mandrel bent semi piping.... from a local semi supply place...

^^^ nice man.. just drop a small/short (but large diameter) cherry bomb on there.. only cost ya 20 bucks.. hehe. and being just a straight through glasspack they don't slow anything down and do tend to help the sound alot.

if your unlucky enough to have to pass emission tests, hopefully you still have your stock exhaust system. just slap it back on. its not that big of a hastle since you only have to do it once every 2 years.
