3230, Throttle body from junk yard...
Posted by Niclipse, Jun-12-01 07:33 AM
There is a really huge junkyard in my area that says they can get me a throttle body for my eclipse for $50, so I figure that I could use this throttle body and send it off to get bored...

However, the guy says it's a throttle body off of a manual eclipse, and I own an automatic.

Can I buy this thottle body off of a manual eclipse even though I have an auto? Let me know!

it's all the same. THe TB is the same on both auto and manual. If the sensors are messed you can move it from your existing one to the new one. Getting it bored cost about $100 from howell. don't know about anyone else.

Yep Howell is the cheapest around. I checked quite a few places and the running price is $250 to bore your throttle body. Go to Howell. Gary does a good job, and They returned mine in much less time than they predicted.

how effective is having the bigger throttle body with stock intake manifold??? Is it worth the $100??? But i have heard that the stock 2gNT manifold is already 55mm i.d. and getting a bored throttle body is worth the money... can anyone confirm this?!

Yes it's worth it. If the intake manifold is 55mm (which it is) then having a throttle body smaller then that would be too restrictive. So, yes, do get a 55m throttle body.

My question is this... what if i wanted to bore the intake manifold more then 55mm? Will I gain more power or lose it?

The stock Tb goes from ~55mm on the inlet side to 46mm at the butterfly to 55mm at the intake manifold. So boring it out to 55mm is very helpful. The intake manifold inlet is already 55mm. So no porting of the intake manifold inlet is needed.

55mm is as big as you can go with the stock TB, there isn't enough material to bore more. Supposedly you can bolt on a 60mm TB from a minivan. I don't know about this or not, but I've heard it can be done. Then the manifold would need to be opened up on the inlet. More airflow is generally better but you can get too much. Somethingthat say your head or exhaust manifold can't get out fast enough then you aren';t doing any good.
