32135, Valve Job on head ? Posted by pn0ymahal, Sep-07-02 07:39 AM if im just rebuilding the bottom end, i heard its a good idea to do a valve job, but im not doing my whole head, just the rockers, and lifters which is easy ... so is it ok not to do a valve job when i rebuild the block? i assume its ok... | |

You never know if the valve seats are carboned up, or leaking slightly..plus after the head is off, you dont really know if it got warped at all either..thats really bad..have a machine shop do a valve grind job, and mill the head just enough to get it nice and flat. Your stock valves, springs, rockers, and spring retainers should be just fine, but a visual inspection will tell you of any probs with those..Plus it would be a PITA to take the head off after you spend all that time rebuilding the motor...When it comes to an engine, i personally would not shortcut anything.. | |

Posted by pn0ymahal, Sep-07-02 05:02 PM problem is i dont got time for down time.. so a spare block is a couple 100, then if i get my top end done add another 500-700 in parts plus another hmm 500 or so for machine work... i plan to do just the bottom end now, then save up for a spare head, and when a good one pops up ill build that up, and have a build head by next oct2003 about... hehe | |

Posted by pn0ymahal, Sep-08-02 02:54 AM it all boils down to if im willing to be without my car for sometime. if i redo my top end i will just rebuild my current motor and just have down time.. i cant afford to buy a extra block, and head, and built it etc.. the money i could use for the spare parts could be part of my top end... hey marcus, did rre do all the machine work for you? or did they send it out? i remember you told me they did some work to your top end? it was around $800 right? | |
