31313, Head removal questions...
Posted by Dave_FL, Aug-28-02 12:46 PM
Well I went to try and tighten up the head bolts to see if I could temporarily fix my blown headgasket problem. Well the bolts were tight. I used a torque wrench and the bolts were all to spec. Looks like I am going to have to get a new headgasket and I am ordering the ARP head studs and bolts tomorrow. I have a question about removing the head. Is it possible to get the bolts out without taking out the cams? It looks like the bolts wont go past the cams. And the ARP studs and bolts hold a lot harder than stock so I am hoping this wont hapen again after I get them in there.

You can get the head off without taking off the cams, but you have to take the cams out to get the bolts out. They won't clear the cams, even though you can get a ratchet to them.

Just as Dino said you can pull the head and then take out the cams to do the new studs. I should have done that too but I don't know how to reinstall the cams properly.

Dave, where are you getting your ARP head studs from? I also am going to get those and was wondering if you found a place with a good deal. Do we have to order the ones made for the neon, or do they have a set made specifically for us?? Thanks man....
