3124, Oil catch can???

I was planning on getting a turbo kit within the next year or so. I hear you need a catch can if u want to keep oil from getting everywhere. How does this install? Anyone have pics? Also, where is the best place to get one. Cost?

well it's a little can with a breather up on the top that has 2 hoses going into it, one in the bottom to drain the oil that has been caught, the other hose goes to the side of the valve cover (where there is a hose that goes into your intake pipe.) instalation is no more than unpluging the valve cover hose, and putting the hose from the catch can to it, and just mount the can anywhere you want.

RRE sells them as well as Sumit racing.

So, it goes onto the pipe coming from the valve cover? The one that the intakes always have a hose to hook to it? I have a breather filter on there.

The oil catch can is an alternative to a breather. It's a better alternative anyway. The catch can will catch all that oil that splurts from your breather so it doesn't get all over you engine and intake. Heh I learned just this weekend that a catch can is much better when all this oil got all over my intake pipe, engine, and BOV. :P

Could I do this without the turbo? Where is the best place to mount it?

I see one big problem with our cars and catch cans. Where would it go? We can't put it close by because we don't have room. If you have seen the catch can on a gs-t, it is actually pretty big, and wouldn't fit because our intake piping is in the way. Would it be possible to route a long house and mount the catch can somewhere farther away, or would that defeat the whole purpose?

i was looking today, and it seems like you can just mount it on the firewall...it's not too far away, and it looks like a pretty straight forward and clean install...
i was looking at RRE's catch can, and there are two hoses- one comes off the valve cover, but i'm not sure where the other one goes...does anyone know?

thanks

bought one today at a racer shop. pretty tight design. I'm hopping it doesn't melt like my breather filter did (damn WeaponR). well I have a Star Stage one and I have plenty of room near the intake pipe. I'm just gonna tie wrap it on one of the bundle of wire there. at least it'll be some ways away from the turbo and the engine. Looks like it was designed to mount the firewall too it has some threaded holes embedded in it.

Don't ask about the Pika... Pika whut?

Damn...Hades..

you have room?

I have that exact same catch can, but haven't found anywhere to mount it?!?! I plan on taking it to the Shootout maybe and either looking for good places to mount it, or sell it.

I WISH I had the room. That mofo catch can is BIG! (So now you know that Piku fellow is pretty damn big as well ;-) )

Jason, I'm sure we can find a place for you. Granted you have huge intercooler pipes everywhere ;P If you don't make it up here before, then take it to the shootout, we'll find a spot for you to mount it. Hell, we work well in parking lots ;-)

who makes the smallest catch-can available? i'd like one to be about the size of a coke can. anybody make one like that?

mount it on the firewall behind the engine block. Works wonders and fits just right to clear the lower intake manifold. you have to mount it on an angle with the breather filter pointed towards the passenger side.

Anyone have pics? Where at on the firewall? I guess the other hose goes down to the ground?>
